It is a part of the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections, which is operated by the government of the state of Louisiana. The facility focuses on the enhancement of the public safety. Louisiana State Penitentiary provides food, clothing and health care services for its offenders. It helps offenders in developing positive changes in themselves. The facility also administers various educational and rehabilitation programs for offenders. It has a partnership with the Louisiana Community and Technical College System. Louisiana State Penitentiary is accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA).
