Despite their very competitive prices, my husband and I were not convinced of renting from Clippership after reading a few bad reviews. Before booking we called them with a bunch of questions and they were very responsive and reassuring. They informed us about our options, as well as pros and cons of each, to help us decide on the right vehicle for our family. We rented an RV for 10 days and had a great experience. The staff was friendly and helpful explaining how to use the RV. We didn't have any issues with the vehicle and upon return, just had to wait a few minutes to return and inspect our vehicle. We received our $500 deposit after about 2 weeks, no problem. We would rent from Clippership again!
Last June I rented a motorhome from Clippership for 17 nights. It was a great experience, completely satisfactory. I made my reservation by email; they answered immediately to all my questions and were always extremely kind and friendly. Moreover, they were very professional both during the pick up and the drop off. And the motorhome, a "platinum/gold" model, was simply perfect, beautiful and very new. And the price was good too! It was the nineth time I rented a motorhome in USA, almost everywhere in the States, and I never had such a good experience. For all these reasons, I do recommend Clippership Motorhome Rental. Personally, I'm planning to come back next year!
Our party of 5 rented a 2014 32' gold coachman bunkhouse class c motorhome from 8/4-8/11. I was pretty nervous about renting from the company after so many terrible reviews, but I can say that I had a great experience from the unit and the company. I did come armed with a long list to check when we did the walkaround before we left the lot (since so many people had probems with equipment), and there were 4 small issues that arose on the trip, but very typical of an rv (we have owned rv's for the last 14 years). The staff, who clearly work hard at what they are doing, were friendly enough, and yes, we did have to wait another hour and a half to get the rv. Remember that the pick up is from 1-6 pm (NOT exactly at 1 pm!!), so be patient, and have a plan to go eat something or walk around in case they are still cleaning the rv. We were able to leave our luggage there, and go get a leisurely lunch. After almost 90 minutes for lunch, we had to wait another 30 minutes, and after going over all of the features, and the walkaround (to check for prior damage) we were off (about 3:30 pm). The rv drove great all the way to Denali Nat'l Park, and we drove all the way down to Seward, Homer and then back to Anchorage easily. The rv provided a great trip for us, as all the hotel/motels I was looking at were $200+ a night, and that is not even renting a car (upwards of $700!!!) We loved our Alaska adventure, and I would recommend renting a newer unit (2014 rv or newer).
I don't have enough words to express my disgust for this place. If you have no other option -go rent a car. You will have a much better customer experience, vehicle, and vacation than what these inconsiderate people, with their broke down RV's, care to provide.
Within the first 48hrs of having the motorhome it started breaking down and lost power on the highway. I found a turn off and called Clippership and they refused to do anything to help us. We sat on the phone being transferred between at least 4 different employees, all of whom had no idea what they were doing and had the worst customer service skills I have ever experienced. At this point, sitting on the side of the highway, I also noticed that the registration tags on the RV had expired! I mentioned this to one of the employees and said that I was driving illegally and the employee rudely scolded me for taking the RV off their lot with expired tabs. He then put me on the phone with someone else and proceeded to call me an a**hole in the background. I was eventually put on the phone with the owner who refused to do anything to help me until the unit was completely dead on the side of the road.
This was just the beginning of our 5 day rental and trip across Alaska. There was a large pocket of water in the bedroom wallpaper that bubbled up in the window frame when touched. The bedframe was broken. The check engine light was on the entire trip (flashing occasionally). There was extensive body/cosmetic damage all the way around the entire motorhome. The RV had a horrible rattle and shake when running that just got worse throughout our trip, and the retractable step outside the door was missing when I picked it up.
As of right now this has been a $1,250+ five day nightmare that still hasn't been resolved three weeks later. I highly discourage anyone from renting from this company. Spend the extra money and rent from a more reputable company who actually cares about and takes care of their customers and equipment.
First let me say this is a busy place! Don't let your 1st impression scare you away ( over hearing a couple from Japan say how dirty and ran down the office appeared- book by its cover reminder) it wasn't bad and the folks try to move people into their RV's as fast as humanly possible.
Our maiden voyage started with a few hick-ups. Power in the plugs didn't work, a cabinet door poped open and the hindge was broke, and a vent over the bed kept flapping( screws were laying in the screen)
Our little Ruby ( we named her) had 104 gently used rental miles on her but engine was solid, Ruby took us over 1600 miles in 7 days. We did have to call the 2nd day after no manual or what if guide had our issues listed. Tyler, whom I spoke with walked us through how to get power to the GFI plugs(breaker kicked) and not to worry about the cabinet door and the vent cover should be ok, if not call them back.
Ruby was older but kept us warm and dry. We had full at all the RV parks we stayed in, and she took most of the hills like a champ, trust us no cell service in most of the out skirts we didnt push her, I'm not sure 104 rental miles is like dog years.
Our overall experience was good!
Now returning Ruby, a lady checked 412 aka Ruby in and said she looks good but I'm not a mechanic??? What does that mean, hmmmm ok so no paper work, your all set your $500 deposit takes about 10 days to be refunded.
I found the coment odd but they were pretty informal formal right from the start.
On our adventures we met other folks who rented from other RV rentals who seemed to have similar experiences or worse.
Ours was not bad, and we enjoyed our adventure.
In the end we would rent from Clipper Ship again. I'm sure 412, aka Ruby will be long retired By than but never know!!
I live in Alaska and have been renting motorhomes from Clippership for the last 5 years. It has been a very pleasant experience every time. The people are always friendly, the product is good, and the prices are extremely reasonable. I always recommend Clippership to my friends and plan on renting from Clippership Motorhomes next time I am in need of a motorhome.
me and my wife rented a 23 ft RV from CLIPPERSHIP last June of this year. Our experience was outstanding from the time we arrived at the airport and they picked us up within 15 min. We did the paperwork, went over the RV and answered all the questions, spent as much time as needed with us. We did send a ups package ahead and it was ready for us at the camper. We pup 2200 miles on in 15 day. Had a great time. We just might do this again next year with CLIPPERSHIP.
we did get our deposit back within 10 days. ALASKA in a beautiful state to visit and no problem with driving. From WISCONSIN thank you.
Family of 9 took their great RV!
Service was Amazing, they gave extra blankets, chairs tables, all what you need without any hesitations, since it was our first time with a RV, they explained everything in detail and also over the phone when we were in Denali, having troubles turning on the heater. family owned business. highly recommended!
If I go back to AK for an RV, it'll surely be them! We were very comfortable with them. they cleaned up the toilet couple of times, since we spent one night at their RV location!
Give more business to Family owned companies guys! Economy will prosper only then!
Our experience with Clippership Motorhome Rental was excellent. They picked us up at the airport upon arrival and took us to the Hilton downtown when we returned the vehicle. The office staff and the courtesy van drivers could not have been more helpful and nice. Lee and all of the office staff went out of their way to assure that we were satisfied. The vehicle performed perfectly and our deposit was returned to our credit card within 2 weeks. This was the first time we rented a motorhome and WE would definitely return to Clippership for a future RV rental in Alaska.
We just returned our RV to Clippership after a two-week rental. It couldn't have gone smoother! The staff was friendly and helpful. The RV was great. We made our reservation several months before our arrival. No surprises when we picked up our unit. We used their shuttle service both from the airport and to a hotel at the end of our trip. We would not hesitate to book with Clippership again.
