Their RVs are absolutely unreliable and ill-maintained. They sent me off in a vehicle with a massive fuel leak. I only realized the problem hours outside of anchorage when I went to fuel up. On inspection of the problem it was clear that they had TWICE inadequately tried to repair the fuel line and did not do so up to any reasonable safety standards. Gasoline was SPILLING on the ground. I was in the middle of no where and they have absolute no emergency number. Also AAA will not help if you are in a Motorhome in case you are wondering. It was15 degrees out, I was alone and stranded at a one gas station town and I had to rely on the kindness of strangers to make it back to anchorage in one piece. Missed out on a day and a half of my vacation and then Clippership nickel and dimed me....they had NO interest in making the situation right at all. There are other options out there!!! However nice these prices may seem do not do it!!! Go with one of the other outfits in town and save your vacation and keep yourself safe!!
***UPDATE*** 4/10/18 despite having a signed document from them agreeing that I returned the RV without damage, I still have not been reimbursed my $500 deposit (I returned the RV 10 days ago), nor have I been reimbursed the day+ that I missed, nor have I been reimbursed the funds spent out of my own pocket to get the mechanically broken RV back to them in anchorage.
***UPDATE*** 4/10/18 - I tried calling the company, and they are refusing to reimburse me for the gas I spent trying to get the broken RV back to them and wanting to charge me for not refilling the tank to the broken RV - mind you it was the FUEL LINE THAT WAS BROKEN.THIS ENTIRE COMPANY IS A COMPLETE FRAUD.
The whole experience was great. The driver picked us in about 15 minutes after we call. He answered all of our questions about the area. When we got to the rental place everyone was nice. They showed us all about the RV. It was nice. We drove it up to Fairbanks. It drove without any problems. Everything worked well.
I would recommend Clippership to anyone who want to see Alaska.
Our deposit was returned in about two weeks.
I would highly recommend Clippership to my family & friends and would certainly use them again. Clippership is a caring, family owned business that wants your Alaska time to be special.Their inventory is huge, which consists of gently used, rented vehicles. Their top priority is to provide a safe RV with a rock solid engine, great tires, a clean interior, everything in good working order, and with all the provisions.
Our experience was excellent. We actually needed the vehicle earlier than expected. They quickly accommodated and found another vehicle. We didn't have to wait. We signed papers, did a tutorial walk through, and we were ready to go. We added groceries and everything else was there. We soon discovered driving through Alaska in an RV is the dream vacation.
We realized that we actually didn't remember everything about the tutorial, but soon found in the cabinet, a complete written guide covering everything. We never found anything wrong, missing, broken, or worn with our RV.
We stopped by Clippership's office in the middle of our vacation simply because we were looking for a dump station. They quickly dumped us, filled our water, checked our battery power, and on everything else. Then, we were again, happily on our way. The entire team at Clippership works very hard to provide you with an extremely safe, reliable RV and they want you to enjoy every minute of your Alaskan vacation. They exceeded all of our expectations! 5 stars all the way!
Also, their prices are by far the best of any RV rental in Alaska.
These guys SAVED our Alaska Adventure! A big thanks to Ashley, and everyone else for their great customer service. We had a last minute cancellation with another rental and they found us a vehicle and helped us out big time.
After landing we grabbed a cab, the driver informed us we were getting a GREAT DEAL on the price of our RV. He told us that competing companies were charging 3x what we paid. If you are traveling Alaska on a budget this is a GREAT company to rent from.
True, it was 13 years old but well maintained. It got us up and down the BEAUTIFUL SEWARD HIGHWAY, no problem. We didn't use the oven or stove (the oven door was dented, how does that happen?), but the microwave was fine. The right side door rear view mirror was jumpy (and taped, huh?) but we delt with it. Overall, we had a fantastic time and a trip of a lifetime, thanks to Clipperships. It was a simple check in and check out, got our deposit back in full.
On a side note, after reading reviews of the company before arriving something, became very clear. Customer expectations: If you land and expect every nuisance of your trip to be catered to this is a weak fallacy. This company will provide you with a reliable vehicle and the rest of the trip is up to you. Rent Clipperships if you want a solid vehicle on a budget price.
Our first ever RV rental was from Clippership this past Aug / early Sept (we had it for 11 days). We did not encounter any issues with RV or their personnel. Coral checked us in and out and was very thorough with both walk arounds. She answered questions professionally and we found a few other workers very personable. We had a late night arrival and their policy is to allow you to sleep in your RV beforehand, we found this to be fantastic idea as you are on site and no extra hotel charge. Short taxi ride from airport too! They have several choice tiers to choose from (each tier is how old the camper is). We did choose the higher tier as the price differences wasn't much. The older the model, the more it's been used (no brainer!) We will be renting from them again next year.
Rented Class C for 2 weeks. It was a GOLD Model so no more than 2 years old. Don't expect brand new unless your the first one renting, knowing that you will be OK. We had some issues but they took care of them, most employees want to care, but they are SUPER busy all the time. Kind of a rag, tag place but they had the best price and it worked out for us.
This was my second year to travel to Alaska and the first time to rent an RV from Clippership RV. I will say that I was hesitant after reading reviews from other people. What I took into consideration was the complaints they had written, many which seemed minor for anyone who has owned an RV themselves. I took a chance on Clippership RV and they did not fail. This business offers RV'S from several years old to new. If you want to pay less, then rent an older unit but if you want a newer nicer RV, then you have to spend some money! My experience was great. I rented the 30' Thor, which was new with low mileage. The unit was ready when promised, completely stocked (at no exaggerated rental fees), clean, and everything worked. The girls in the office were very friendly and helpful and bent over backwards to give us any extra blankets and towels, again without any extra fees. There were minor cleaning issues but then again...it's an RV, not the Hilton. We rented three ice chest, four chairs, three fishing poles/tackle and a grill and it was only an extra $73 for the entire week,! Other places I rented from wanted that amount per day! As for comparison this was a BIG RV, not a van cab, and it was $550.00 cheaper than the other company I used. I STRONGLY urge you to pay the $30 a day insurance for windshield chips because I am 2 for 2 on rocks hitting the windshield!! I don't write many reviews but felt compelled to do so here because those who are thinking about renting an RV should not expect a hotel, afterall you are going to the Alaskan wilderness where you are not the top of the food chain;) Have fun
Renting and RV from Clippership Motorhome Rentals in Anchorage was for us a very positive experience. For us Europeans a vacation to Alaska is often a once in a lifetime dream, and a bad experience with your RV can make or break your vacation. The cost of the RV is probably also the biggest single cost factor of the vacation. We were out a bit late, and others did not have any suitable homes available any more. The communications prior to renting was very positive and professional, and we did not really have any unanswered questions once we decided to rent the RV. At pickup the RV size we had booked was for some reason not available, but we got one a couple of foot bigger instead. Needless to say at no extra charge. This actually turned out to be a very positive thing, because the additional space was very nice to have on the inevitable rainy days you do get in Alaska. If you do get a bigger RV make sure you inform the ferry companies if you have pre booked tickets based on a particular vehicle size. They are very strict, and if your vehicle is bigger than booked you might not get on the ferry, something that the person instructing us about the RV claimed did not matter. This is the only "negative" experience we have had with Clippership. It obviously also increases the ferry costs. The RV was spotless when we received it, and upon requesting more blankets and bed linen we were promptly given additional sets. We had absolutely no problems with the RV during our stay. We drove about 2700 miles around Alaska and Yukon in 3 weeks in July 2014, and the only mishap was a faulty water hose for the water connection to city water. Having called Clippership we were told to buy one and keep the receipt. When we returned the RV it was checked by Clippership and everything was found in good order, and we were informed that we would receive the refund for the hose together with the deposit. When we had returned to Europe the deposit USD 500 that we paid was returned to the credit card, as was the cost of the hose we bought. All in all a very positive experience and we would definitely use Clippership again if we are lucky enough to return to wonderful Alaska at some time.
Our experience with Clippership was excellent from the beginning. Not only do they have good customer service, but their prices are much less than that of their competitors. And they don't nickel and dime you for every little thing. So for travelers on a budget (like us), Clippership was the perfect option. We rented the smallest camper available, and it was ready for us when we arrived. They took us through and explained where everything was. Less than an hour after arriving, we were on the road. Our Alaskan adventure included 4 nights in Denali National Park. On our first night we noticed that the furnace wasn't functioning as normal, and the refrigerator indicated low battery. After a very cold night, I called Clippership the next morning and was immediately connected with their mechanic (Sergei). He patiently guided me through what to check. After 20 minutes he told me there was a problem with the battery and he would have to send someone out to help us. He gave me his cell number and told me someone would be out to help us. We went about our day and when we came back, the RV still wasn't fixed. Now, this was over Memorial Weekend. We forgot traffic would be bad out of Anchorage, and Denali is about a 4 hour drive. Finally Les from Clippership showed up with 2 brand new batteries. He was apologetic about the long delay and got right to work. In no time at all, Les installed the batteries. He checked the generator to make sure all was well. Then he gave me his personal cell number and told me to call him if there were additional problems. What could have ended up as a disastrous and uncomfortable vacation was fixed with great customer service with the assistance of Sergei and Les. Their patience and attention to detail made our trip in a Clippership RV very memorable. Thanks Clippership! Sergei and Les deserve some serious kudos for jobs well done.
My name is John Giunta and my wife rented a 23 ft RV from CLIPPERSHIP last June of this year. Our experience was outstanding from the time we arrived at the airport and they picked us up within 15 min. We did the paperwork, went over the RV and answered all the questions, spent as much time as needed with us. We did send a ups package ahead and it was ready for us at the camper. We pup 2200 miles on in 15 day. Had a great time. We just might do this again next year with CLIPPERSHIP. we did get our deposit back within 10 days. ALASKA in a beautiful state to visit and no problem with driving. From WISCONSIN thank you
We had a good experience renting from Clippership. Our RV was not the one we had requested, but we got a bigger and newer RV for the same price! The RV was ready when promised, ran great, and was in good condition inside. We were both experienced RV'ers, so the walk through was quick and easy for us, but if it was as fast as ours was, it might be a bit overwhelming for someone new to RV'ing or someone who did not speak Engligh as their first language. Customer service was OK, although there were discrepancies between the manual they give you with the motorhome and the contract we received, such as drop off time, that should be resolved to prevent any misunderstandings. Also, knowing how much we acquired during the trip (chairs, hatchet, toilet paper, etc.) and left behind with the motorhome, it seems that these items should be included with the rental, rather than an extra cost. Overall, ours was a good experience, and we would consider Clippership for a fture Alaska trip.
Despite their very competitive prices, my husband and I were not convinced of renting from Clippership after reading a few bad reviews. Before booking we called them with a bunch of questions and they were very responsive and reassuring. They informed us about our options, as well as pros and cons of each, to help us decide on the right vehicle for our family. We rented an RV for 10 days and had a great experience. The staff was friendly and helpful explaining how to use the RV. We didn't have any issues with the vehicle and upon return, just had to wait a few minutes to return and inspect our vehicle. We received our $500 deposit after about 2 weeks, no problem. We would rent from Clippership again!
Last June I rented a motorhome from Clippership for 17 nights. It was a great experience, completely satisfactory. I made my reservation by email; they answered immediately to all my questions and were always extremely kind and friendly. Moreover, they were very professional both during the pick up and the drop off. And the motorhome, a "platinum/gold" model, was simply perfect, beautiful and very new. And the price was good too! It was the nineth time I rented a motorhome in USA, almost everywhere in the States, and I never had such a good experience. For all these reasons, I do recommend Clippership Motorhome Rental. Personally, I'm planning to come back next year!
Our party of 5 rented a 2014 32' gold coachman bunkhouse class c motorhome from 8/4-8/11. I was pretty nervous about renting from the company after so many terrible reviews, but I can say that I had a great experience from the unit and the company. I did come armed with a long list to check when we did the walkaround before we left the lot (since so many people had probems with equipment), and there were 4 small issues that arose on the trip, but very typical of an rv (we have owned rv's for the last 14 years). The staff, who clearly work hard at what they are doing, were friendly enough, and yes, we did have to wait another hour and a half to get the rv. Remember that the pick up is from 1-6 pm (NOT exactly at 1 pm!!), so be patient, and have a plan to go eat something or walk around in case they are still cleaning the rv. We were able to leave our luggage there, and go get a leisurely lunch. After almost 90 minutes for lunch, we had to wait another 30 minutes, and after going over all of the features, and the walkaround (to check for prior damage) we were off (about 3:30 pm). The rv drove great all the way to Denali Nat'l Park, and we drove all the way down to Seward, Homer and then back to Anchorage easily. The rv provided a great trip for us, as all the hotel/motels I was looking at were $200+ a night, and that is not even renting a car (upwards of $700!!!) We loved our Alaska adventure, and I would recommend renting a newer unit (2014 rv or newer).
I don't have enough words to express my disgust for this place. If you have no other option -go rent a car. You will have a much better customer experience, vehicle, and vacation than what these inconsiderate people, with their broke down RV's, care to provide.
Within the first 48hrs of having the motorhome it started breaking down and lost power on the highway. I found a turn off and called Clippership and they refused to do anything to help us. We sat on the phone being transferred between at least 4 different employees, all of whom had no idea what they were doing and had the worst customer service skills I have ever experienced. At this point, sitting on the side of the highway, I also noticed that the registration tags on the RV had expired! I mentioned this to one of the employees and said that I was driving illegally and the employee rudely scolded me for taking the RV off their lot with expired tabs. He then put me on the phone with someone else and proceeded to call me an a**hole in the background. I was eventually put on the phone with the owner who refused to do anything to help me until the unit was completely dead on the side of the road.
This was just the beginning of our 5 day rental and trip across Alaska. There was a large pocket of water in the bedroom wallpaper that bubbled up in the window frame when touched. The bedframe was broken. The check engine light was on the entire trip (flashing occasionally). There was extensive body/cosmetic damage all the way around the entire motorhome. The RV had a horrible rattle and shake when running that just got worse throughout our trip, and the retractable step outside the door was missing when I picked it up.
As of right now this has been a $1,250+ five day nightmare that still hasn't been resolved three weeks later. I highly discourage anyone from renting from this company. Spend the extra money and rent from a more reputable company who actually cares about and takes care of their customers and equipment.
I live in Alaska and have been renting motorhomes from Clippership for the last 5 years. It has been a very pleasant experience every time. The people are always friendly, the product is good, and the prices are extremely reasonable. I always recommend Clippership to my friends and plan on renting from Clippership Motorhomes next time I am in need of a motorhome.
