This was my first time at this particular salon and most likely be my last. I had been looking for one for a while and, due to its proximity and a couple of positive reviews, I thought I would give it a shot. I took in pictures with me to explain to the stylist the type of color I wanted as well as the style of haircut. She did not ask many questions (which I thought was unusual) and went to work. That made me a little nervous, but I figured it was a fairly easy request, she was a professional, and with pictures, how could my request be misinterpreted? I will start with the positives. My hair cut is cute and she did a good job styling it. It looks healthy. What I did not like was the color. She missed the mark on the color - it was nothing like the picture or what we discussed. She asked me if I wanted a specific shade and I said yes. What I ended up with was no where near that shade. I was very specific about what I wanted (you learn from experience that without a picture your explanation and the stylist's interpretation can be two different things). So, it was not a horrible experience or a horrible cut. I just felt that she did not listen to what I wanted or pay attention to the pictures I brought in. Further, now I am going to have to spend more time and money to get the color to what I want. Speaking of money. I thought the cost of the color was reasonable ($90), however, I was charged for not 1, not 2, but 3 extra color mixings ($45 worth) that she used. I would understand it if my hair was extremely long, but my hair is barely shoulder-length. So, I almost feel as though either she is not experienced enough to estimate how much color to mix or it was purposely done to pad the total cost. I was hoping for and expecting more from a salon like this. I, honestly, could have gone to a Great Clips for a $15 or so haircut and just did the color myself and would have been happier with the results.
Our gas dryer stopped heating so I looked for an appliance repair shop. I couldn't find many reviews so I winged it and trusted that Harold's Appliance Service would do good work. I noticed there were some real old bad reviews and some newer great reviews. I suspected the business had undergone a change in ownership.I called for service and the receptionist was friendly and helpful. She said she would call me back with an appointment. She did and gave us a 2 hour window - 12-2pm the next day. The repairman, Shawn, came about 1:30, diagnosed the problem and told us he needed parts. He returned in a couple of hours and fixed our dryer, vacuumed around it and cleaned up his work area. Additionally, he thought a slight squeak coming from the dryer was due to rollers, which he replaced, however, it didn't fix the squeak which didn't bother us, so he did not charge us for that. Free BONUS! He did fix the igniter which kept the dryer from firing up and heating. Viola! Dryer fixed. We were happy with the fix and the price was considered normal to us so we highly recommend Harold's Appliance service. Also, we asked Shawn, whom we found out was the owner, about change in business ownership and he is the new owner. We were very pleased with the service.
So happy there is now a drive thru in this part of town!! I called ahead and they made up dinner for my family. It was great and everyone in the family was happy. My husband got the Butterfly Shrimp(huge) and Sweet Potatoe Fries, I got a Chicken Sandwich and a salad with balsamic. My daughter had a Blueberry Banana Protein Shake and BBQ wings. My older son had a Hot Dog and a Watermelon Italian Soda and my younger son had Chicken nuggets and Tator Tots. I am putting our order, because normally any place I get dinner from only makes half of my family happy...but this place made all the family happy. It was so good that I went for breakfast on my way to work this week. I ordered a Snickers hot chocolate and then asked if they had French Toast. They said it wasn't on the menu, but made it for me anyways and it was so delicious. I will definitely call ahead and order dinner for my family here more often so I can grab something that everybody likes before we head out to football and soccer practices!!!
Mae saved me! When I walked in, out of the blue, with hair that looked like I'd stuck my finger in a light socket .... zap, FRIZZ .... all due to an over-priced, TERRIBLE perm, she cut, styled and literally SAVED my hair and my pride! I have very thin, very fine hair and I thought I was going to have to just wait and watch it all break off til I was left with nothing. The woman who did it was going to refuse a reimbursement of the nearly $150 charge without even seeing what she'd done, too! I mentioned two magic words: "Courtroom" and "Judge" and viola! I got my money back from Damselfly in Homer, AK and took myself to the ladies at Divine Appointments. I know why they call it DIVINE now ... they all three, but especially Mae (May?), are inspirational! They gave me back my faith in hairdressers and gave me back a nice hairdo, without any frizz and with style, too! GOD BLESS THEM! Will refer EVERYONE I know to these fabulous ladies!
I had made an apt with Lorraine to get a cut, oil treatment, style and wax. My apt was originally at 9:30 and she was running late, so I ended up rescheduling, and when I got there I waited 20 mins past my apt time, she said I had a 70's haircut, bc it was cut straight across and she ended up giving me layers, which I told her when I sat down that I didn't want them, and after my brow wax, it normally gets red and goes away within an hour or two, but this time there was a dried up blood spot underneath my eyebrow, and it was red and bumpy for almost 3 days after my apt. This has never happened to me, I will not be going back!
Joy does such a beautiful job of cutting and coloring my hair. I always get compliments on how beautiful my hair looks and I have long hair. She is such an expert when it comes to color. She does my friends hair coloring and my daughter's coloring with highlights and lowlights. Their hair just comes out beautiful. It's always so shiny and healthy looking. I won't let anybody else touch my hair. I have been going to Joy for years and have always had a beautiful cut and color. I can't imagine you not being happy with her services.
Best food, atmosphere, prices, specials. Old time Alaskan Family serving fresh Mexican food made daily. The service was excellent, the food was served quickly, fresh and delicious. Reasonable prices. They have their own chip factory, salsa, made daily right here in Anchorage. Located off Dimond and King street. Two big outdoor decks, we enjoyed our food, libations in the sunshine. For Mexican food in Anchorage you will enjoy, LaMex is my all time favorite
Kava's is your secret hole in the wall find! It's very hard to check off all 3 categories & usually you have to settle:1) Price (decent, $12 average plate & huge portions)2) Taste (bomb!)3) Service (waitresses & hosts are pretty nice too & she had time to talk to kids & us)I moved from Hawaii & it's nice to find a place with good grinds & you don't have to get all dressed up.Try the bottomless kalua pig & their coconut syrup on the pancakes, Ono!
Wonderful! I needed a part for my dishwasher and called over a dozen places in town before Harold's. They had my part, set it out for pick-up and was only a few dollars more then the dealer. Of course if I bought it from the dealer I would of paid an extra $28 for them to ship a part the size of a quarter and had to wait 7-10 days for delivery instead of having my dishwasher up and running that night. Harold's will be my first call next time.
I've been in Alaska for 10 months now and just found Sabrina at Salon Demitri!!Sabrina took the time to really understand what I was looking for. She offered her professional insight and explained what I envisioned through her eyes. She nailed it! I walked out sublimely happy and please with my haircut. And I have been receiving compliments since walking out the door. I will not get my hair cut any where else in Anchorage, ever
