Regular eye exams are an important tool in eye health for detecting and preventing eye diseases and evaluating the overall health of the patient. Some diseases, such as glaucoma, develop gradually without symptoms or vision loss, so patients may not notice that anything is wrong until significant and irreversible damage as been done. Early detection of eye diseases allows for a better choice of treatment options and a reduced risk of permanent damage.
Macular Degeneration
Ultraviolet light (UV) is an invisible light that is part of the sun's radiant spectrum. Exposure to ultraviolet light can cause the lenses of the eye to become cloudy, causing cataracts among many other conditions. Ultraviolet light causes the eye to age faster, thus can also cause macular degeneration. You can't see ultraviolet light. It affects the eye without your awareness to its being there, and the effects are cumulative. Almost everything in nature is affected by UV light, and almost everything deteriorates because of it. Not all sunglass lenses block all of the UV light, but the lens we recommend most is a polarized sunglass lens for sunglasses and polycarbonate lenses for dress wear.
Laser Eye Surgery
Other factors. Long-term use of contact lenses or LASIK eye surgery can reduce the production of tears and lead to symptoms of Dry Eye. With LASIK, the condition is generally temporary and resolves as the eye heals.

Digital Device users, contact lens wearers, post-operation cataract patients and those exposed to light at night. Children and Youths who are digital device users, and tend to hold their devices closer to their eyes are especially at risk.

Diseases that may be associated with Dry Eyes include Rheumatoid Arthritis, Diabetes (especially when the blood sugar is up), Asthma, Thyroid disease (lower lid does not move when blinking), Lupus, and possibly Glaucoma.
Diabetic Retinopathy
As Diabetic Retinopathy is a disease that remains asymptomatic until a very advanced stage, the importance of regular eye examinations cannot be overemphasized, especially for people who are diabetic. An optometrist or ophthalmologist can detect DR by examining the back of the eye (ocular fundus examination), which will also indicate the type and severity of the disease.
