Frankly, I'd Rather Starve

Ate there a few months back. Food was pretty good, but priced a bit high, and the much-praised sweet potato cornbread was cold and dry.

Today, I went back to get lunch for several friends at work. The owner greeted me, hollering all the while, and snapped at me repeatedly as I tried to place my orders.

When I accidentally ordered pulled pork instead of chopped, the rude response was ""we don't SERVE pulled pork, we serve CHOPPED like it says on the menu!""

Every time the owner had occasion to say anything to me, asking about sliced or chopped, or whatever, he was very hostile. He even injected ""where did you HEAR about us,"" plainly implying that he did not want me there. I finally stopped the order and told him I wouldn't need anything after all.

He told me not to come back. Not going to be a problem.

No food is worth being demeaned.

Honestly, the whole encounter reminded me of the very few occasions when I have been met with racism, and treated like I was somehow a slave-owner or the like. It was just amazing how hateful he was before I even had a chance to complete the order.

In short, I have no explanation why the owner chose to be rude and insulting, and am left guessing at the possible reasons.

Great BBQ at Peppers

We first ate at Pepper's a year ago while we were here dor a horse show at the fairgrounds. Pepper's is across thwew street and just looked a real BBQ place. We weren't disappointed. We had ribs, chicken and ""12 hour"" brisket. Everything, including the sides, was GREAT. The owner really cares about his food and the satisfaction of his customers. When we returned this year (again for a horse show) we were delighted to see that Pepper's had survived. It was the first place we ate at. The food was better than we remembered. For some people, the location might be a little off-putting. Don't let appearances fool you. This is a real BBQ joint and is a delightful place to have great food.

So good, So good!!

I, like the previous reviewer am not a big bbq eater, I don't eat red meat so it's usually not my top pick. Peppers is changing that! Everything was so good, and I have to disagree with the previous review listing it as pricey. I had a fried catfish plate with a heaping bowl of greens, corn bread and white bread, my boyfriend had a two meat combo with sides big enough to share with me (plus we have plenty of leftovers) and two drinks for under $24! Everything was the best I've ever had. I was stuffed but couldn't help finishing off my corn bread on the walk home. Eat at Peppers, I know I will be!
