Dental Care

Vaccination
Vaccinations are intended to be administered to a healthy pet. Although your pets’ outward appearance may suggest he or she is healthy, there are many conditions that are silent that may be discovered on a physical exam. Once we perform your pets’ physical exam, we can better determine if your pet is healthy enough to be vaccinated.
Veterinary Ophthalmology
It is crucial for your pet’s vision that we detect and treat glaucoma and other problems with intraocular pressure (pressure within the eye) as quickly as possible. We can test your dog or cat’s eyes for excess pressure easily and safely. The test, performed with a device called a tonometer, is not painful and does not require sedation. We also recommend that breeds that are prone to developing glaucoma come in for regular measurements so we can monitor eye pressure and begin treatment before any problem becomes irreversible.
Comprehensive Examination
Regular exams are a vital part of your pet’s healthcare plan. We recommend all cats and dogs receive a yearly physical exam, though more frequent exams may be preferred depending upon the age of your pet and his or her physical health.

Parasites Treatment and Control
We ask you to bring a fecal sample so we may test it for evidence of intestinal parasites. Parasitism is common in pets. Some of the intestinal parasites your pets may harbor can be transmissible to humans, particularly young children, and immunocompromised people. Keeping your pet’s parasite-free not only keeps them in better health but provides more protection from infection to the humans in your home.
Pain Management
In practice, she enjoys treating and interacting with her dog and cat patients. She particularly enjoys small animal internal medicine and challenging feline patients. Learning about different modalities of pain control is a new and growing interest.

Kidney Disease Treatment
Pre-anesthetic blood work gives us a more complete picture of your pets’ health status. Sometimes information on the blood work helps us to better fine-tune the anesthetic choices we make for your pet. Sometimes blood work picks up problems not obvious to us on physical examination that would make us want to take extra precautions, perform additional testing, and in rare instances even postpone or cancel the procedure. We are especially interested in screening for any evidence of liver or kidney disease. Most anesthetics, just as most drugs in general are either metabolized by the liver and/or excreted via the kidneys.

Laboratory Services
Colonie Animal Hospital is equipped with an in-house laboratory, digital x-ray machine, therapeutic laser, an ultrasound machine, and an up-to-date surgery suite. Most diagnostic and treatment procedures can be handled within the hospital.
X-Ray
Microchipping
Microchipping is a safe, permanent way to identify your pet in case he or she becomes lost. Please contact us to schedule an appointment to microchip your pet. Although we hope your pet never becomes lost, we want you to be prepared. We can also suggest a plan to have in place so if your pet does go missing, you’ll be able to act quickly.
