Alameda DragonFlyers Dragon Boat Racing Team
2400 Mariner Square Dr, Alameda, CA 94501
Originating in China some 2,000 years ago, dragon boat racing is popular throughout Asia, the Pacific Islands, Europe and the United States. Crews consist of 20 paddlers, a drummer and a steerer. The Alameda Dragon Flyers racing club practices Saturdays year-round (8:45 to 10:30 a.m.) holds 2 evening practices (Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:45 to 7:15 p.m.) from March 12 through October 31, runs a challenging boot camp to build paddler fitness, participates in local, West Coast and international races, and has an active social calendar for paddlers and their non-paddling family members and friends. Practices are held on the Alameda-Oakland Estuary, where paddle boarders, kayakers, whale boats, outriggers, sail boats, sea otters and cargo ships also ply the waters. Novice, recreational and competitive paddlers 18 years and older are welcome to attend 3 free introductory sessions before joining for an annual fee of $120. Equipment and instruction are provided; swimming ability is not required. It's a great workout at a bargain price. You should check them out!
We offer instruction and fitness training to prepare paddlers for competitiive and recreational dragon boat racing. We provide boats, paddles, safety equipment and coaching.
We meet in the parking lot at 2400 Mariner Square Drive, Alameda (formerly Chevy's Restaurant, now vacant.) Ask for Nancy, Karen or Carol.
We paddle on the Alameda-Oakland Estuary, with beautiful views of the Alameda and Oakland waterfronts. Our club members are friendly and supportive. We have lots of social activities that include paddlers' non-paddling friends and families.
