Primary Care
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, it should not be ignored. It is worthwhile discussing this with your primary care physician. He or she can decide if further evaluation is necessary, order initial diagnostic testing, and make an appropriate referral if necessary.
Family Practice
Dysphagia, which is the sensation of having difficulty or abnormality in swallowing, is an extremely common problem. It is a symptom that is seen in the office of most gastroenterologists on a daily basis. A disorder of the swallowing mechanism can lead to numerous symptoms, including coughing, drooling, choking, and the sensation of food getting caught in the throat or chest. The prevalence of dysphagia is not entirely known. One study in 2007, in The Journal of the American Board of Family Medicine, asked 947 study participants if they experienced dysphagia. Over 22% of the respondents reported that they did.
Emergency Care
Next, is chronic abdominal wall pain syndrome. This type of pain is focal and fairly constant somewhere in the belly, perhaps enduring for days to weeks, and occasional severe enough to take someone to the emergency department for evaluation. The CT and labs are usually negative. Often-especially if the pain is in the right upper side along the ribs- patients have had their gallbladder removed already. Yet the pain persist. A simple maneuver checking for the Carnett's sign is often only necessary to make a highly certain diagnosis. There are variety of treatment options for this including trigger point injections.
Colonoscopy
There is more to this story than just these basic facts. A June 16, 2015 article published in HealthDay News entitled “The Doctor Who Does Your Colonoscopy Matters” speaking about the physicians who perform these colonoscopy procedures, states that, “Those with higher polyp detection rates prevent more cancers and save more lives.” This study involved examining data from nearly 57,800 patients who were part of the Kaiser Permanente Northern California health care system. Patients had their colonoscopies performed by 136 different doctors between 1998 and 2010.

Eat a diet high in fiber. Consuming a diet high in fiber helps to keep food moving through your digestive tract, and helps to prevent or treat various digestive conditions, such as diverticulosis, hemorrhoids, and irritable bowel syndrome. Insoluble fiber, known as “roughage”, can’t be digested by the body and therefore helps add bulk to your stools. Soluble fiber draws in water and can help prevent stools that are too watery. Therefore, fiber can help both constipation and diarrhea. Good sources of insoluble fiber include wheat brans, vegetables, and whole grains; soluble fiber includes oat brans, nuts, seeds, and legumes.

The most effective means of treatment against HCC is via prevention through vaccination against hepatitis B, avoiding alcohol consumption, avoiding obesity which may predispose you to fatty liver with scarring, and treatment for potentially curable or treatable diseases to include chronic hepatitis B or C, hemochromatosis, Wilson’s disease, or autoimmune hepatitis. New CDC guidelines recommend all individuals born between 1945 and 1965 or those with risk factors for viral hepatitis (blood transfusion prior to 1992, tattoos, IV drug use, and anal sex) should be screened with a one-time blood test for hepatitis C.

We do know the best way to avoid developing colon cancer is to have a colonoscopy to screen for pre-cancerous polyps. Ultrasound
Cirrhosis from any cause, as well as chronic hepatitis B itself, are the two most common risk factors associated with HCC. Screening in both these patient types should occur every 6 months via right upper quadrant ultrasound or CT / MRI dedicated to the liver. A lab test called alpha-fetoprotein is also commonly used to monitor for HCC. Pain on the right side along the ribs may be the only presenting symptom, but incidental detection on imaging studies is the most common means of diagnosis.
MRI
Most patients consider the test comfortable. The capsule endoscope is about the size of a large pill. After ingesting the capsule and until it is excreted you should not be near an MRI device or schedule an MRI examination.
X-Rays
Computed Tomography
The incidental finding of a liver lesion noted on ultrasound or CT scan is fairly common today. The worry and concern can be tremendous. One’s overall risk of the nodule being a medically significant lesion is highly dependent on whether or not cirrhosis is present or not. In the presence of cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is much more likely-90%. Without cirrhosis, benign lesions are generally much more common.
Chemotherapy
As esophageal cancer advances, it can cause complication such as: obstruction of the esophagus, pain, and bleeding. Cancer may make it difficult or impossible for the food and liquid to pass through your esophagus. Treatment options for esophageal cancer are determined by the type and stage of your cancer and may include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, or palliative measures.
Radiation Therapy
Unfortunately, there are no reliable screening tests for pancreatic cancer. Diagnostic studies usually employed include sonography, CAT scanning, and advanced endoscopic exams. Once the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer is confirmed, your doctor will work to determine the extent (stage) of the cancer. Your cancer’s stage helps determine what treatments are available to you. Treatment for pancreatic cancer depends on the stage and location of the cancer as well as on your age, overall health, and personal preferences. Surgery, to eliminate the tumor, if it is confined to the pancreas, radiation therapy to destroy cancer cells before and/or after surgery, and chemotherapy, to kill cancer cells that have spread beyond the pancreas are typical treatment options.

Botox
The first are anal fissures. Commonly patients come to me complaining of pain associated with their hemorrhoids over the past few weeks or months plus or minus minor bleeding. A digital rectal exam may be necessary to make the diagnosis unless the patient is in excruciating pain. Ointments, Botox injections, and ultimately surgery may be necessary to heal this lesion.

Skin Cancer
Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death and the third most common non-skin cancer in men and women. One in three patients with colon cancer will die from the disease. Yet, colon cancer remains very preventable because most colorectal cancers start out as a benign polyp that initially develops in the colon. The process from that small polyp developing into colon cancer is generally a 10-year process. Colorectal cancer screening techniques exist to intervene at any point in this 10-year process, thereby preventing colorectal cancer or at least identifying colorectal cancer at an earlier stage.
Cyst
Lesions
Around 20% of individuals will have a lesion noted on imaging with the vast majority of these being benign. These lesions more commonly occur in females and usually pose no long-term detrimental health effects. Recognition is key to minimizing unneeded expensive and invasive workup. Fortunately, many lesions have characteristic radiographic findings that are diagnostic. Hemangiomas (an aberrant collection of blood vessels ) and simple liver cysts are the majority of common benign lesions found. Other benign lesions include focal nodular hyperplasia, an accumulation or sparing of fat focally, and hepatic adenomas. The latter lesion is potentially associated with oral contraception, and thusly discontinuation of these medications may be recommended.
