Overview:Certified childcare service ideal for part time or date night care. My almost 2 year old loves going 2-3 times a week during those occasions that mommy and daddy are both scheduled to work at the same time. This is ideal if your schedule varies from week to week or if you have the outside normal hours meetings to attend. The facility:Kidz in a minute is conveniently located in the Target shopping center near Once Upon a Child. They are open 8:30am-9pm Mon-Thu, until 10pm on Fri and Sat. and 1-5pm on Sun. As you enter the building you are in a reception area with a half window half wall separating the reception area from the play area so you can see your child is playing happily before you completely leave the facility. This greatly reduces anxiety for both child and parent. There is room for napping and,a small kitchen for heating and storing food. You can provide food or for additional $5 at pick up they will. No peanuts or peanut butter allowed (we sent a peanutbutter and jelly sandwich one time . In the play area itself there is an indoor pirate ship play house with slide (my son loves), climbing wall, play house, 2 computers with child friendly software, and tables crafts, coloring, and meals/snacks.Cost:Annual membership is only $20 and half of that was credited to the cost of our first visit. Standard rate is $10 per hour, but package plans are available and provide a substantial discount well worth investing in. There are also some simple loyalty programs (card punch and Facebook check-in) that you can participate in to accumulate free hoursStaff:Staff are certified childcare providers competent and friendly. They keep a daily schedule posted online allowing for play, clean-up, snacks, and even potty reminders which has helped my own son become more excited about potty training. Before you go:There is an online registration form you can fill out or print off to fill out and have ready the first time you bring your child in so you can use your time to speak with the staff and introduce your child to the facility rather than standing around filling out paperworkAdded bonus:Your Kidz in a Minute membership card is good for discounts at other businesses in the shopping center. A list of participating retailers is available online.Funny comment: The first day we took our son here he had so much fun that when daddy showed up to take him home he cried and ran back to the pirate ship saying 'No! Mine! Mine!' He has gotten better about leaving and anytime we go to the shopping center he gets excited and points out the brick building with Kidz in a Minute babbling happily.

We've been CDC parents for 3 years now and love it. I wish they had a north campus because we have since moved much farther away, but the kiddo loves it so much I couldn't ever think of pulling him out for the sake of convenience. The teachers are exceptional. As another poster said, the holidays they have can be frustrating for two-working-parent or single-parent households, but usually one of the teachers will set up a little informal camp or something. And every single teacher there deserves holiday pay and some time off. I don't even understand how they can be so great and patient and fun all the time.A few years ago we did have an issue with a teacher that was always late, making the parents late for work. It was a big problem. After a few complaints, she was either fired or moved on and for the last 2 years there has not been one single problem. The school itself is more laid-back, hippie style than the intensely clean and organized Montessori centers you see. The toys are well-loved. There is paint all over the fence. A favorite activity is playing in mud. MY child comes home happy, tired and dirty. I'm used to it now and would not have it any other way. They believe in play-based, child-led learning. No academics, no pushing reading or math, etc. But when a child has a question, they explore the answer hands on, focusing on 'discovery'. This method is not for every parent or every child. It works great for us. Growing up is hard enough, getting to be a kid when you are a kid and develop a sense of curiosity is important.I feel the price is average for central, center-based care and a great deal when you consider the caliber of employees.
First of all, I want to state that CDC is not right for every child and that is perfectly fine. My 2 yo has attended the Children's Discovery Center for 6 months and she is excited to go to "scoo" every single day. She even asks to go on the weekends. The place would not be the same without the teachers! Every single one is a gem and can always be found at kid level, sitting on the ground, laps full of kids. It is so obvious that each one is there because they enjoy it and not just for the paycheck. They are patient and creative and involved every step of the way.The "curriculum" is appropriate for a bunch of 1 - 3 year olds. It's stated much more eloquently on their website, but the kiddo's are given all the freedom to be creative, explore and encourage their innate curiosities. Children grow at such amazingly different speeds and take to such various skill sets, that I personally don't see the benefit to the child in anything "standardized".Not too pricey compared to most full time centers and certainly not for the benefits she gets from attending, but high for our working budget. However, the director, Rosalind has been AMAZING and has helped in finding assistance and with working with us on payments. We will be a Discovery School for as long as we can possibly manage it!
Went here today with our 4 year old and 6 month old and had a great day of hands on activities and learning through play. This is definitely something Toronto needs, our older daughter took part in all the scheduled activities and had a great time and it was so nice to have the play mat areas with mirrors for infants in every room, as it allowed both parents to watch the fun both children were having without either of us being left out. It can be pricey, however it was was worth it the staff were friendly and attentive and always giving advice. Considering how busy it can get it was very clean and staff could be seen always restocking paper, craft supplies, sorting and cleaning toys. Everything is child friendly from lots of high chairs, stools in the bathroom and a comfy nursing room. So sad it ends on the end of the year but will definitely support the building of a permanent centre.
My daughter has attended CDC since she was 2 years old. She is now 4 and is a minority as am I her mother. My daughter is introverted and stubborn child at times, however, she loves her school and loves the structure it gives her. Aside from the normal scratches and bruises during outside play, she has always been healthy and happy there. All my concerns have always been addressed. No preschool or daycare setting will ever be as good as being able to stay at home, but for a good preschool education plus a place one feels good about leaving your child in, CDC is as good as it gets for normal working parents. Thanks.
Absolutely liked this place!!! My daughter had so much fun!!!! as soon as we left and was in daddys shoulders she was falling asleep!!! The place is awesome, I especially appreciate that 1. no matter how much mess there is tons of staff there to clean it up....and 2. that the staff is super amazing with my daughter!!! my daughter was not at all shy to say hello or talk !!! and I love that there is an infant zone in most of them!!!! very convenient and it excites me to bring my baby in November that even my infant can enjoy!
My 7 month old had a fantastic time playing music and painting! Looking forward to going back and exploring more areas! It was clean with lots of bathrooms and places to take an overwhelmed infant for a few minutes of downtime. Can't say enough wonderful things about the staff. They were actively helpful and friendly. Really engaged with the kids and were generally lovely! I seriously love this place! If you have an infant don't worry - there is plenty to do outside the specific infant area!
I cannot express in words how thankful I am to have the children's discovery Center for my sweet boy who is nine months old. The teachers are amazing and the facility itself is perfect! So calm and so peaceful and gives me such a piece of mind. All the teachers work so hard to keep you and your baby on your same schedule. We had a very easy week transitioning from staying at home to full-time childcare. Do yourself a favor and send your children to the discovery center!!!
This daycare is extremely professional. My younger cousins attended this daycare for years, and the environment is extremely warm, safe and friendly! In the future when I do choose to have children, hopefully she will still own this business because if so, they will certainly be enrolled in this facility! I truly love how the respect is mutual when communicating with Ms. Pamela, and I can't wait to discuss enrollment for my children in the future!
I have had my child at this center for 3 years now and I love it! The staff are very nice and the building is CLEAN, it does not spell like a daycare. When you walk into the lobby, the things on the wall are very inviting and welcoming to the children. This center has 4 stars but I agree with the post before that they feel more like 5 stars.
