Most opticians are about the same - they want your money and they don't care about you because you are just another sucker, er, customer. I am pleased to say that I have finally found a notable exception - Clairmont Nichols Opticians. I recently experienced one of the finest buying experiences I ever had at CN Opticians. I needed to buy a strong magnifying glass for my almost 90 year old mother. I could not find any other optician who carried magnifiers or who knew much about them. I looked up magnifying glasses in the phone book and saw CN's listing and gave them a call. The salesman I spoke to was very polite and understanding and invited me to come the next day to sit down and compare the different models they had. The nexr day I came and met a wonderful salesman named George who took the time to explain the facts I needed to know. Then I brought in my mother who was waiting in the car and he allowed her to compare many different magnifiers. She selected the one she wanted and I paid for it. The thing we never felt pushed or neglected. No hard sell or soft sell, just the time and facts we needed to get the right magnifier. Now George did not know what I was going to buy, in other words, how much I was going to spend; I could have cheaped out or even walked out. But I did not. Of course, the one I bought was not cheap, but it was the right one and left the store fully satisfied. I only wish every store could be like Clairmont Nichols. In the perfect world, they would be. But at least I had the satisfaction of finally coming across one of the best! Very highly recommended.
Jeffrey's is great and so is Jeffrey. He has been making my glasses forever. He is incredibly patient. I made at least 5 visits before selecting one of my several pairs of glasses. He held several frames over that time and was always happy to offer other choices. Most importantly, his work is meticulous. It turns out that there are different "lenses" for "different folks" and it is not always predictable what will work. The issue especially arises in making progressives. The first time I graduated to progressives, Jeffrey stuck with it until I was perfectly happy. The second time, we moved to a new lens that was perfect from the get go. Just yesterday, I was talking to a friend who is having trouble with progressives made elsewhere. I am sending him to Jeffrey just to get the problem diagnosed correctly. I know Jeff will help him, even though there is probably no money to be made this time around. Jeff is an unbelievably good optician.
I'd say that Jeffrey was by far the most competent optician I've ever dealt with. He patientle explained why certain lenses were better for my prescription, and despite the fact that I'm generally suspicious of such advice, I ordered them and was happy to discover that his suggestion was spot on. The frames he sold me were retro-style, and when my toddler decided to rip them from my head and snap the earpiece from the frame, I went to Jeffrey's. He told me that he'd discovered that the frames were in fact fragile and unreliable and that he'd replace the glasses for free, in another frame, also at no cost. Any time I needed an adjustment, he did so gladly, quickly and with care and skill. When the glasses needed to be sent out, I picked them up on the day he said they'd arrive. He is a friendly person, to boot, and given that I'm a commited customer, it's clear that his amiability is not just some front, put on to get me to buy some more expensive product.
Since moving to NYC, I have been looking for a new eye doctor. I'm happy to say my search is over! Michael’s Optical is bright, clean and modern. I had gone to other optics in the area and was treated like a number and not a patient. At the other optics I was given my glasses that made everything blurry but they told me that there wasn't anything wrong with the glasses and that I just needed to get use to them. I never wore the glasses and never went back. At Michael’s Optical, Romeo the optician and owner made sure that I was happy with their service and product throughout the process and made me feel like a patient and not a number. He helped me pick out AMAZING frames and assured me they looked fantastic on me. I picked up the glasses the next day, (so quick) loved the quality of the lenses. Again, amazing and great experience. I highly recommend it.
The trainers are really great at working with a variety of clients from rehab, pregnancy, and postural training to martial arts and athletic performance. They begin with the client's base level of fitness and function and progress through challenging sessions to reach all goals. I work with the Level 1 (highest level) Trainer. This costs the most but, he has helped me more than any trainer I have ever worked with. I came to Visions Wellness with overall body pain that could not be diagnosed. After a few months I had no back, hip, knee or shoulder pain! (And I love it so much I am going into my 4th year!) I am over 50 years old and people think I am in my 40s. I move like a 30 year old. You can't BUY that kind of life change!!
This is the best personal training studio on the upper west side if not all of manhattan. It is a family business that really knows how to take care of their clients. They are very educated and experienced. If you are looking for a trainer that will help you exercise safely and still get great results, look no further. I can't believe how good I feel these days. I walked by for months and totally regret I didn't start sooner. I don't have back pain anymore and I can run, squat, jump and play with my kids on the weekends without any difficulty. Check out their website and their credentials if you want to know more.
Lovely Experience on 72nd St. So I'm walking west on 72nd St., and I see this green awning and it's an Optometrist shop which looks quite nice. The glasses in the window are calling me to come in. I did and for the next 45 min. I tried on at least 30 pair of glasses. (Sam's patience was abounding) and finally chose a pair of frames. Sam & Ana are the loveliest people to do business with and there's no pressure and they are just very, very pleasant. They are now my go-to people for glasses and I wouldn't have it any other way.
I worked in the optical industry for a few years and had the opportunity to see the wholesale frame price book. The most expensive "designer" frames cost about $20 on the wholesale market. There are no typos here and I'm not kidding. The retail mark-up on eyewear is outrageous to the point of being shameful. If you want to avoid the charlatans and their greedy 1000% mark-ups, go to Unique Eyewear. They are the fairest optics retailers I've come across. They see more than dollar signs in your eyes.
Pre-surgery, Doc and staff kept me calm and relaxed. Surgery was about 15 minutes from entering to exiting the room. 10 minutes in the chair. Once the anesthetic eye drops wore off (about 20-30 minutes post-op), I started feeling moderate burning and itching. One hour later, it merely felt like I had dry contacts in. ONE HOUR!!! THATS IT!! Now, it is the next morning, and I am better than 20/20 according to Doc. The "halo" effect is minimal, and I am ready for work, Thanks Doc!!!
I get an eye exam every few years and my visit to Creston Optical was a great experience. I had a complete eye exam by an experienced doctor who took the time to explain all of the different exams. I have 20/20 vision but will keep Creston Optical on my list if I every need glasses or another eye exam
