Tanks A Lot

Great place! I got to talk alot with the owner, he's extremely friendly and very knowledgeable. He really knows his fish. He also has a good variety of healthy, reasonably priced reptiles. He asked my opinion of the smell of the store, apparently some one put a foul review about it some where, which was not bad or overpowering. If you enjoy fish and/or reptiles this is a really nice place.

I stopped by Tanks A Lot this ...

I stopped by Tanks A Lot this afternoon and could not be more disturbed and saddened by what I found. I visited this establishment when it sold only fish and while it wasn't the most stellar pet store in the world, it was certainly acceptable. What I found today, however, with the addition of reptiles and other creatures to their store roster, was anything but.

On a shelf that barely sat above the floor, a small glass aquarium contained a very sickly looking bearded dragon. The lizard was so malnourished and abused that I could not even tell it was a bearded dragon at first. It had no food and no light source, and was covered in darkness from the shelf above it. It looked dead and did not move its body the entire time.

I was also extremely disturbed by the condition in which the store's snakes were kept. In particular, I was sickened by ten corn snakes that were kept in containers that would not have fit your average lunch sandwich. They had no room to explore and a child could easily have just pulled out a container and grabbed the snake, as the "housings" were not secured whatsoever.

The store also featured a parrot that was kept in deplorable conditions, with no water and a few crumbs of food that looked moldy. Even the store itself was very unkempt and filthy. There was what looked like an old car seat sitting near the front door, and unattended dirty water buckets and mops were just laying in the floor. There were also many cords on the ground that could pose as a safety hazard.

This review asks me what I would say if I was telling my best friend about this place, and if I had to summarize it quickly I would simply say, STAY AWAY. This establishment is disgusting. If you purchase from Tanks A Lot, you are enabling ANIMAL ABUSE. I hope this place shuts down and stays that way forever. The owner and employees should be ashamed of themselves.

I just returned from a visit to tanks a lot and I could not be more disgusted with the way they are keeping their animals. When this store was strictly fish they were a great place to buy but recently they have taken in WAY more than they can chew. The lizards and snakes lacked basic needs like heat and UVB. They had a bearded dragon that appeared near death with no light and no UVB bulb. The snakes were kept in tiny 2" x 2" plastic tubs with no access to temperature gradient. The iguanas were piled on top of one another to attempt to get to the small heat bulb far away from their enclosure. The leopard geckos had a heat light pointing away from their enclosure almost 3 feet away from the lizards themselves. One climbed as close at it could on the wire cage in an attempt to get warm the other appeared sickly on the bottom of the enclosure. The chameleons water was rushing and one was caught in it getting washed down the 2 foot tall enclosure. Another struggled to climb closer to the heat source and again their was no UVB.

The single bird they had in the store was in a filthy cage that appeared to have never been cleaned. He had no food and no water and only one small perch to stand on. The bird sat on his food bowl occasionally looking around for food that was not there. The ferret(s) cage was equally unkempt with no access to any food or water. The ferrets hid when people walked by acting generally terrified.

The store itself was in a general system of disorganization. Mops and brooms lay across walkways and the shop owners young children ran about the store yelling and bumping into customers and pulling at the heat lamps and animal enclosures.

If you want an animal that is healthy and will not die within a few days of purchase DO NOT VISIT THIS STORE.

Salt Water Fish and Aquariums

"Tanks A Lot ", in Yukon, has a great selection of both salt water and fresh water fish. They are beautifully displayed and the environment is very clean. All fish are quarantined before they are put in the general population, to ensure healthy/beautiful fish. They also have supplies of salt water, general supplies, a great selection of aquariums and coral for sale. Derrick is the owner and he has extensive knowledge of fish and he also provides free water testing and he provides aquarium cleaning, set-up and take downs at a nominal fee. Derrick can special order any fish or supply that you may want and have it in stock within a day or two.
