Dental Examination
Water picks use powerful tiny bursts of water to blast away food particles and other debris in hard-to-reach areas of your mouth. Dentists use professional-grade water picks when preparing a tooth for restoration, or in general cleaning and exams.
X-rays
The severity of a toothache can range from chronic and mild to sharp and excruciating. It can be a dull ache or intense. The pain may be aggravated by chewing or by thermal foods and liquids which are cold or hot. A thorough oral examination, proper tooth testing and evaluation, along with appropriate dental x-rays, can help determine the cause. What we want to know is whether the toothache is really coming from a tooth or somewhere else.
Oral Cancer Screening
Your initial oral examination includes a visual examination, oral cancer screening, periodontal probing and gum disease evaluation, diagnosis and treatment recommendations. Dental x-rays are taken as needed to diagnose your current dental condition. We will then discuss your treatment options that will satisfy your particular needs.

Teeth Cleaning
On your first visit, Dr. Viana will review your medical and dental histories and evaluate your oral health. We will take x-rays of your teeth and explain to you whether or not you will require any dental treatment. Dr. Viana will be more than happy to answer any questions you might have. In most cases, a dental cleaning will be performed at this initial visit as well.

Fillings
We use tooth-colored resin fillings that are cured to match your teeth. If an amalgam filling shows in your smile, we can replace it with a tooth-colored resin filling. The fillings are usually placed in one appointment.
Resin Composite
There are alternatives to conventional substances used in amalgams, such as gold and metal alloys. These include materials made from porcelain and composite resins, which are colored to match natural tooth enamel. Unfortunately, few materials can match the strength and durability of conventional dental amalgam and may need more frequent replacement.
Veneers
Porcelain veneers are thin wafers of porcelain, about half a millimeter thick (the thickness of a fingernail) that are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a smile makeover. Porcelain mimics tooth structure better than any other restorative material. It is harder than enamel, so it resists wear and can last for many years. Your dentist can manipulate the color and translucency to re-create the look of any tooth. Porcelain veneers rarely discolor, unless the surface has been damaged.
Crowns
With proper care, a good quality crown could last up to eight years or longer. It is very important to floss in the area of the crown to avoid excess plaque or collection of debris around the restoration.
Bridges
If you are missing one or more teeth and there is at least one serviceable tooth on both sides of the space where the tooth is missing, one acceptable option for replacement, used for many years in dentistry, is the fixed bridge.
Dental Bonding
Whitening agents actually change the color of your teeth, but only are effective on certain types of stains. For example, bleaching agents have a difficult time removing brownish or grayish stains. These products also are not as effective on pitted or badly discolored teeth, or on restorations such as crowns, bridges, bonding and tooth-colored fillings (porcelain veneers or dental bonding may be more appropriate in this case).

Root Canal Treatment
Crowns are typically used to restore a tooth's function and appearance following a restorative procedure such as a root canal. When decay in a tooth has become so advanced that large portions of the tooth must be removed, crowns are often used to restore the tooth.

Dentures
For patients who are missing multiple teeth, we can fabricate full dentures or partial dentures. We also offer flexible dentures which contain no metal and provide a better aesthetic option for our patients. This procedure requires several appointments, usually over several weeks. Highly accurate impressions (molds) and measurements are taken and used to create your custom denture. Several appointments may be necessary in order to ensure proper shape, color and fit. At the final appointment, your dentist will precisely adjust and place the completed denture, ensuring a natural and comfortable fit.
Overdentures
An overdenture is a removable denture that fits over a small number of remaining natural teeth or implants. The natural teeth must be prepared to provide stability and support for the denture.

Tooth Extractions
Tooth extraction procedures today are far less painful than ever before, thanks to powerful anesthetics and sedatives. In many cases, a patient who has tooth pulled experiences little or no discomfort, and only minor bleeding. Before a tooth is extracted, the area surrounding the tooth is numbed with a topical/and or injectable anesthetic such as Novocaine.

There are several alternatives to flossing for those who find it too difficult, too painful (sensitive gums or gum disease) or ineffective (those people with braces or delicate bridge work). But remember one thing: Never use a toothpick as a substitute for flossing. Toothpicks can tear delicate gum tissue and may damage existing dental restorations.

Whitening procedures have effectively restored the smile of people with stained, dull, or discolored teeth. The darker tissue of your teeth, the dentin, can become exposed as the outer layer of enamel is worn away by the effects of aging or things like caffeine and tobacco.
