Took my 3 year old boy to St Clare…

Took my 3 year old boy to St Clare Urgent Care in January 2013 for an earache. My wife and I filled out our insurance information, Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) and waited to see the doctor. Shortly after filling we filled out our paperwork they took us to an exam room. The doctor looked at our sons ears and gave us a prescription for Amoxicillin. In and out in 20 minutes.

On the way out I stopped to pay our copay. Our BCBS copay for walking clinic is supposed to be $45.00. They told us not to worry about making the copay. They would bill us after the insurance paperwork was turned in. Two weeks later I got a bill from St. Clare Urgent Care for $249.00 and when I called the billing # they told me they don’t participate with BCBS and I would have to pay the entire bill. Why didn’t they tell us when we turned in the paperwork they don’t participate with BCBS? Or when I asked to pay my co-pay?
