I have lived in Winchester my entire life and use cabs a LOT. I've used most of the cab companies in Winchester over the past 30 years, and find myself back using Polly's over and over again. I've seen so many other companies come and go, and while they are here the only thing they do is increase what people have to pay. Polly's has been around since before I was born (my parents talk about them as being the quintessential small business in Winchester since when they were both kids), and they are the only taxi company to stick around all these years. Last week Polly's cab drive me from home to a restaurant downtown and stupid lost my cell phone. When I came home, there was a note on my front door from the driver telling me he had my phone and to call him so he could bring it back to me - FOR FREE. I couldn't believe it and he told me that kind of thing happens all the time. I was so impressed it brought me here to write this review. Anyway, I hope you don't loose your phone, but if you leave it in a Polly's Cab, I bet you'll get it back. That's just my two cents worth.
I needed to get from Charles Town to the Winchester Hospital early in the morning. The night before I called Kam's Taxi. "can't tell you now; call the driver tomorrow at 6 am" the I called Polly's Taxi: "can't tell you now, call the driver at 5 am". Called Yellow Cab. "What time you want your pickup?" "7 am" . The next morning, the driver showed up 15 minutes early. A cheerful fellow, his English was OK; good enough to get me to where I was going. I got to my appt. plenty early. 3 hours later I called Yellow Cab - the same driver came and took me home, no problems. Any questions?
We took this service back to SU after the horrible experience w/ another local service. The cabs were already sitting outside the bar where we were. The cab smelled nice and it was clean. We had 4 people so the mini-van was comfortable. They used a taximeter which I am much more at ease with because I'm from a larger city. I don't like the driver pulling fare amounts out of a hat based on how I'm dressed. The meter was 2.90 cheaper going back to campus then the ride from campus w/ the other service. So far I'm happy with this service and will continue to call.
