The China Wok is not a "fancy" establishment and could be considered a "hole in the wall" thus its atmosphere is "so so." But if you love Chinese food this is a great place to go. It has the best Hot and Sour Soup in the valley, a luncheon menu that is both economical and broad (with a choice of rice type, soup or eggroll and main dish), and excellent cooking. The quality of the food rivals Cafe Asia (which is my second favorite). The owners are very friendly, the kitchen is busy, but clean. My favorites are the General Tso's Chicken, Garlic Chicken and the Chicken with Broccoli (with vegetable friend rice and Hot and Sour soup)... especially at lunch which is a "steal" at $5.00 or less for a meal!!! It is next to Walgreens on Williamson Road at Hershberger. It's only "knock" is atmosphere, but the food is wonderful! (Note that they are closed on Mondays... Delivery is free if the order is over $10.
Wonderful: This restaurant was suggested to me by my cousin and Grandmother. It was crowded when we got there, but we were seated in a timely fashion. The variety and presentation of the food was lovely. My favorite dishes were the General Tso’s Chicken, I also loved the crab rangoons , Mandrin style chicken wing and Pan fried dumpling, in fact everyone loved them because we had to wait a while to get some, and when we looked around, just about everyone had a plate full. They also have Cheese cake and Pie those cakes were wonderful. Everyone was very polite, and the place was clean. The bathroom wasn't completely clean because there were paper towels over flowing in the bin, but that wasn't so bad, because it won't hinder me from coming back.
Restaurant has small portions. If you are a small person and don't want much food for a fairly quick, inexpensive lunch, this may be the place for you. Food quality is good. Best to call in an order in advance if you have limited time for lunch (as I do). I used to like this place much better, but the last 2 or 3 times I walked out of the restaurant after the meal still feeling hungry, unlike all the other Chinese retaurants I have reviewed. No buffet. Located on Melrose Avenue about 4 miles due west of downtown Roanoke, and a mile east of the Salem border.
