As trained medical professionals, our dedication to maintaining a safe environment through rigorous infection control procedures is at our core. We know that moving forward our commitment to your safety will be even more important. While continuing to meet traditional CDC and OSHA requirements, we are adopting some new, additional protocols. For example, we might wear additional PPE, request you wear a mask to your appointment, or take your temperature upon arrival. We may also ask you to wash your hands, request you wait in a treatment room or your vehicle instead of the waiting room, or request that you call in payment after your appointment. Williamsburg Cosmetic Dentistry is your go-to practice for comfortable, caring dental treatment. For questions about what we can do for you or to schedule an appointment, call our office at (757) 229-3052.
Our office regularly cares for the dental needs of children as young as three years old. However, if you notice that your child has a problem with his or her teeth or gums prior to this age, please schedule an appointment. You may also want to bring your child to your dental checkup when he or she is about two so that your child can become familiar with the sights, sounds, and friendly helpers in our dental office. We call this a Happy Visit. Your child's independent checkup at age three will involve a tooth-by-tooth inspection and periodontal exam. The dentist will check for proper development, as well as tooth decay and other areas of concern.
X-rays
For example, one of our hygienists and Dr. Morgan will both examine each of your teeth for signs of decay and cavities. We’ll also check your gums, the soft tissue in your mouth for symptoms of oral cancer and we’ll periodically take digital dental x-rays, too.
Oral Cancer Screening
For this reason, we recommend that most of our adult patients visit us every six months for a thorough examination of your teeth and gums, an oral cancer screening and professional dental hygiene. By stopping dental disease before it starts, we are able to save you from more costly and invasive treatments down the road. In addition, a clean mouth helps keep your heart and mind stay healthy, too. Recent research has shown that patients with gum disease are at a higher risk for serious conditions such as heart attack, stroke, diabetes complications, and memory loss.
Fluoride treatments are another weapon in the fight against tooth decay. Fluoride is a natural mineral that strengthens tooth enamel and can even remineralize a tooth if decay is just beginning. Mouth trays filled with fluoride gel are placed over your child’s teeth for just a minute, but the benefits can last for months.
Dental Sealants
Speaking of prevention, we also offer special preventive measures to help shield tiny smiles from cavities and keep your kids happy and healthy. Dental sealants are clear coatings that are painted on to the biting surfaces of children’s molars and quickly dried with a curing light. Once hardened, sealants last for years and block the bacteria and acids that cause cavities from settling in the deep grooves and pits in these teeth.
Space Maintainers
Yes! Your child’s baby teeth serve many important functions, including one as the placeholder for adult teeth. When a deciduous tooth is lost before it’s naturally ready to fall out, your child’s remaining teeth can shift, leaving the permanent teeth without a clear path to follow. A simple space maintainer can help keep additional problems from occurring as your child’s teeth continue to develop.
If you have metal fillings that have left your teeth darkened, or your amalgam fillings have begun to wear out, contact the office of Dr. Carol F. Morgan. We can replace your metal dental work with durable, attractive tooth-colored fillings. Contact us for your appointment today.

Crowns
Do you have a decayed or damaged tooth in the front of your smile? When restoring the appearance of a tooth is just as important as repairing its function, porcelain crowns in Virginia Beach come to the rescue. Bridges
A bridge is a prosthetic tooth (or teeth) that attaches on one or both sides to teeth prepared with dental crowns. A fixed bridge is joined onto the neighboring abutment teeth (crowned teeth) and consists of three basic units: the false tooth or teeth (called a pontic) and two abutment crowns. The style of bridge we suggest will depend upon the strength and health of the abutment teeth, as well as the location of the gap in relation to the rest of your dentition.
Dental Bonding
Cosmetic Bonding: Cosmetic bonding uses a tooth-colored material to sculpt the teeth. In just one appointment, you can improve their appearance using a minimally invasive procedure. By applying the material to the teeth, Dr. Morgan can hide chips, cracks, and discoloration.
Restorative Dentistry
If you’re wondering whether or not you’re a good candidate for porcelain veneers, chances are good that the answer is a resounding yes! Many adult patients can benefit from porcelain veneers. When you schedule your cosmetic consultation, we’ll check to make sure that your gums and teeth are in good health -- free from gum disease and tooth decay -- before proceeding. Even if you do have spots of decay or infection, we can provide restorative dentistry and other treatments to renew your smile health and allow you to receive the cosmetic treatments you desire.
Your teeth have three important layers: a protective layer of enamel on the outside, a secondary layer of sensitive dentin underneath, and the inner pulp that makes up the tooth’s nerve. Most oral health issues concern the outer layer of enamel. There are times, though, when advanced care for the inner pulp is needed with root canal therapy.
A partial denture, commonly referred to as simply a partial, consists of multiple teeth on a gum colored base. The teeth are not in a row, but rather spread across the base to fit like a puzzle with your existing teeth. A partial is normally secured with clips or brackets, but unlike a bridge, a partial is removable.
We tend to think of dental implants as a modern marvel, and in their current form, they are. But what many people don’t realize is that the idea behind dental implants has been around for centuries. In fact, the very first dental implant is attributed to the Mayans and dates back to 600 AD. It only took us 1,400 years to develop a tooth replacement of a similar kind!
Pain, swelling, and bleeding is normal following oral surgery. A cold compress should be placed on your face near the surgical site for 10 minutes at a time, with 5 minutes off, the day of your surgery. This will reduce pain, swelling, and bleeding.

Tooth Extractions
Bruising, swelling, and pain are normal – particularly if you have had a wisdom tooth extraction. Take your prescribed medication and use a cold compress on your face.
Bone Grafting
If you don’t meet these requirements, that’s okay! You can undergo one or more preliminary treatments to get your smile ready for dental implants. Some common preparatory services include gum disease therapy, extractions, and bone grafting.
In children, it is sometimes necessary to begin orthodontic treatment before the jaw and gums fully form; for this reason, we recommend that you bring your child in for an orthodontic consultation by age seven. This way, we can proactively treat potential problems from habits such as thumb sucking and mouth breathing, or genetic issues like crowding, underbite, or overbite. Our interceptive approach enables us to nip teeth alignment issues before they escalate, gently expanding and reshaping a young person's smile. When all the permanent teeth emerge during adolescence, some children may need a second treatment phase, which can include comprehensive orthodontics and an appliance, like a retainer, to maintain teeth position.
Invisalign Orthodontics
This patient did not like gap between his two front teeth. We used invisalign to straighten his teeth and finished his beautiful smile with bonding on two front teeth.
Braces
More adults than ever wear braces these days – one in five orthodontic patients is an adult* – but not exclusively for cosmetic reasons. The savvy consumer knows that you're never too old to enjoy the health benefits of a straight smile. For instance, symptoms like earaches, dizziness, headaches, and neck pain can all be associated with a misaligned jaw. Correcting the bite will alleviate these symptoms and improve function and comfort, while reducing the potential for tooth wear. In addition, straight teeth are less prone to decay and gum disease.
What’s the first thing people notice about you? It may come as a surprise that it’s not your clothes, your hair, or what you say. It’s your smile! So what are your teeth saying about you? If you’re like many adults, they may look dingy, dirty, or stained after years of exposure to coffee, red wine, and the rest of life’s pleasures. But there’s good news -- teeth whitening in Virginia Beach rejuvenates your smile in as little as one hour!
