Teeth Cleaning
Fluoride Treatment
Patients should brush their teeth at least two times each day – even better would be after each meal and before going to bed. We educate our patients how to floss teeth with braces, and we also recommend a special fluoride treatment.
Space Maintainers
The lower lingual holding arch is a space maintainer that uses metal bands around the two lower molars, with a metal wire spanning from the molars, around the inside of the bottom teeth. Used to hold the necessary space in the mouth for premolars to grow, the lower lingual arch appliance establishes the proper foundation that shapes the lower arch in a healthy alignment.

Dental Implants
There are exceptions to every rule and some adults can still benefit from a palatal expander, but they most often require an implant-supported expander or a surgically-assisted expander if their jaw bones have stopped developing.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral Surgery
Severe cross bite is the condition where the upper teeth close inside the lower teeth. To treat this problem, a device called a palatal expander can be used, which gradually and painlessly widens the upper jaw; it’s especially effective when the jaw itself hasn’t fully developed. If we wait too long, a more complicated treatment—or even oral surgery —might be required to correct the problem.
Jaw Surgery
The reverse-pull headgear (facemask) is an incredibly effective appliance used to promote proper alignment of the jaw bones for young kids. It works by pulling the upper jaw forward. This appliance treats underbite conditions that may otherwise require jaw surgery to correct. This appliance can be incredibly helpful for young patients, ages 7-10.
Maxillofacial Surgery
When a patient experiences trauma to the face, oral and maxillofacial surgery may be required to reconstruct the face, jaw, oral cavity, head or neck.
Tooth Extractions
Another condition that may benefit from early treatment is severe crowding. This occurs when the jaws are too small to accommodate all of the permanent teeth. Either palatal expansion or tooth extraction may be recommended at this point, to help the adult teeth erupt (emerge from below the gums) properly. Even if braces are required later, the treatment time will likely be shorter and less complicated.
