    Decent Food, Convenient Location

Basix has exactly that - pretty basic food. It's conveniently located, but nothing really stands out on the menu. They do have a good HH with plenty of drink specials.

    My home away from home....

My partner and I eat here atleast once a week. It's sorta our neighborhood spot in that we can walk there. The food is always delicious and consistent. They have one of the best nicoise salads in addition to great pizzas and always interesting specials. Many of the servers are great, but we always try to avoid two in particular: the one snippy blonde server that laughed when we asked to substitute a few items during Sunday brunch, and another server that puts me on edge when he pours the water and tea in my glass while holding the pitcher three feet away (as a trick no-less).

My Kind of Dinner? Key Lime Pie and Red Velvet!

    Provided by

I read about this place being excellent for people watching and decided to stop in for wine and dessert. The combination of low lighting, open floor plan, and large windows worked the intimate vibe. \r \r Upon arriving, I had no idea what the parking would look like but the valet was friendly and the price, so long as you ate there, was really quite reasonable. \r \r I choose to sit up at the bar in hopes to chat it up with the bar tender or servers to find out what the locals enjoyed doing, places to avoid, and find out what relocation challenges were. Boy did I luck out! They were so sweet and really humored me. \r \r The wine list is decent, sadly they only carry one Pinot Grigio, but it was still good. The desserts were just so delicious and mouth watering. \r \r All in all? This place is a great place to go with others or solo. Try the Key Lime Pie....you'll thank me later.

    WHAT HAPPENED?

    Provided by

I keep trying to like Basix again, but I can't. A year and more ago it was a decent to good spot for breakfast but over the last several months, it's just gone down hill. it is close to home and all of the waiters are as nice as can be, but the food has become just bland and bad. Over the last few months I have tried it over a dozen times, simplifying my order, just trying to get a decent breakfast but the kitchen is totally incompetent. The final straw was today - french toast and a side of bacon. The french toast was burnt on the outside, cold all the way thru and the bacon was cold. Both came on a cold plate. Over a dozen attempts at breakfast have all been cold, not as ordered or just plain bad. Under cooked potatoes, over cooked eggs, runny omelets, over cooked burgers, cold oatmeal, cold toast, gummy bacon, etc. I think its time to write off this place. Its a shame, nice people working there and a convenient location, but the food is just awful.

    Upscale neighborhood restaurant

    Provided by

Basix Cafe struck me as the ""BLD restaurant"" in WeHo. Overall, a good selection of sandwiches, burgers, salads & entrees; a real crowd-pleaser for those groups of friends with varied food palates & budgets. This place is relatively inexpensive for dinner ($15-$17 incl. tax/tip) for an entree per person & dessert to share. The only complaint is that there are potato chips instead of french fries with the burgers. This would have been a travesty if it were not for the amazing burgers that took up enough space in our stomachs. Food review:\r \r Kobe Beef Burger - This comes out with the lettuce, tomato & onion on the side. Ordered medium, the outside was tenderly seared while the inside was juicy and without risking bloody. You can request sauce, but try it as is & appreciate the Kobe beef as it is. Otherwise, just save $3 and get the regular hamburger if you're going to alter it.\r \r Salmon Burger - Favorite of the evening. The fish patty was perfectly flaked, compounded, and had a consistently crispy texture. Because the patty did not fall apart, I pestered the waiter to tell me how the chef was able to fry the patty without breading it. Included with the burger is a delightfully tangy and creamy side of freshly-made tartar sauce.\r \r Vegetable Pizza - Must share with friends! The pizza came out in a wooden board, sliced up & begging to be pried apart with a knife to separate the melted cheese. It had a sweet taste to it, and must have been from the combination of diced garden vegetables & specialty mozzerella. The pizza sauce was mixed with the toppings, rather than under the cheese like other pizza joints. No worries, this kept the pizza crust crispy throughout the meal & wasn't at all soggy.\r \r Overall, great value & atmosphere & place for group meals.

    First time patron

    Provided by

Basix is anything but basic. I found the food to be pretty good. Excellent omletes and potatoes. Friendly wait staff. Was it just the day I went or is the staff always male only? Tight eating quaters. Just a bit of advice, if you don't like smoking or dining with dogs make sure you request a table indoors. The staff was quite accommodating when I requested to move indoors because another patron was smoking. Overall it was a good spot for breakfast or brunch. I'd definitely go again.

    Upscale Neighbor To Marix

Basix is the slightly more upscale sister to Marix around the corner. She is a bit prettier inside and serving a greater variety of items of seemingly better quality. Basix is not Mexican food. The menu skims through several culinary regions but everything is tasty. They serve very large, entree size salads that are a fusion of fresh and diverse ingredients. The Apple Chicken Salad is one of the best. Served 'chop' style with large chunks of chicken, apple, celery, blue cheese, bacon and assorted garden lettuces. Tossed in a light creamy dressing the salad is anything but light. Large square pizzas are served on papery crust and are delicious but not superior to pizzas found at Vito's or Bossa Nova. I would recommend them as a starter for a group as opposed to an entree for one. It isn't that they aren't tasty, but that they offer only the one flavor and it can get to be a bit much after the second piece. A favorite of regulars and myself is the turkey meatloaf. I dream about this dish. Thick, juicy, slabs are bathed in a delicious gravy and topped with sun dried tomatoes. Served with buttery mashed potatoes and perfectly steamed broccoli. I could eat two plates if I had a stomach big enough. Portions are always generous and for the quality the prices are more than fair. Basix has a full bar and pours good drinks. Wine and beer selection is above average. The mood is subdued and pleasant. An outdoor patio is always packed, however I never sit there. It is ruined by the continuous traffic grinding along the street on Santa Monica Blvd. It is truly unpleasant when busses go by. I wish they could find a way to make that area more peaceful. A real shame.

    Reliably Excellent

    Provided by

This is a great place to eat brunch, lunch, or dinner. I've eaten at Basix countless times, and it is reliably excellent. You can always count on superb cocktails. Their mojito and their cosmopolitan are my favorites. The menu selection is vast and their food is reliably good. Their club sandwiches are tasty and huge. Their skirt steak with chimichurri sauce is *amazing*. Their brunch food is likewise very good across the board. I like their eggs benedict and their crabcakes benedict. Another nice thing is that they allow you to replace your french fries with fresh vegetables or a fruit medley that's not just fruit out of a jar but really fresh and tasty. Finally, the waitstaff is always friendly, and the service is prompt. They have a great location in a pleasant part of West Hollywood, and their outdoor patio is great all year round.

If parking was easier, I'd be a regular here! The food is great, the service is great, and the patio makes for a great atmosphere. I love the goat cheese salad!

I have been a regular at this plce for a couple years and EVERYTIME I go the food is great and the service is wonderful. I have never once had to wait for refills, the food is always fresh, always hot, and great. The BBQ CX pizza is awesome, the crabcakes are to die for, and the brunch is sensational. What Happened???

    Provided by

I've been here many, many times and this last time was a disaster! Had a nice table out on the patio but the waiter took forever to get our drink order. After waiting 20 minutes for the drinks (and still no waiter to take an appetizer order) the manager shows up and asks how our evening was going...we let him know about our bad service so far. To our shock, the waiter came over to us and complained that we had gotten him in trouble! Nice restaurant but really bad waiter

By far the best gourmet BBQ chicken pizza ever! All the dishes are quite good. Key lime pie is made from scratch and is great.
