Sometimes a business needs a review, right? I went to Atwoods in Joplin/Webb City last week with Kurtis and Olivia, both in their wheelchairs. I purchased two 50 pound bags of feed. While in the store, I saw about four employees and they saw me, no one greeted me or offered to help me find something. At the register, the cashier was pleasant enough, but did not offer to call someone to assist me in getting the feed into the van. Outside, there were two male employees organizing items on the sidewalk. Neither greeted me or offered assistance. I was within a few feet of them. They knew what I was doing - loading two handicapped children, their wheelchairs and two big bags of feed into the van, all while the cart tried to roll away. Seriously!
Now, I am very capable of managing my children and moving feed from the cart to the van - that's not the point. The point is, every employee should know greet customers, offer assistance in finding something, and should offer to assist with heavy items - especially women, elderly and the handicapped.
To follow up: My husband stopped at Atwoods to get a bag of potting soil for me. He told the cashier (the same one that saw me a few days before) about my experience and asked him to pass this on to the manager. The cashier did not apologize, but made excuses.
Should I have had to ask for help? Orchelns and MFA always greet me and offer assistance in store while I am shopping and with loading.
Follow up: I just got a call from the regional manager of Atwoods. We had a good conversation about my experience. He told me he would have my complaint read at next weeks staff meeting and reiterate how to treat customers. I am grateful for the call and will probably give Atwoods another chance.
