Having to travel all over the country I enjoy trying different Italian restaurants in every city I go to. For over 20 years I've been going in and out of DC and don't have any idea how I could have missed this little gem of a restaurant. In the front window they have these two older ladies making gnocchi by hand. Inside the lobby you find the desserts calling to you. The manager said that they make all their own desserts in-house. I had the seafood pasta dish which should not be called anything but the best dish of pasta I ever had. The portions are like nothing you will ever see anywhere. The sad thing is that even though the dish was huge, I ate every bit of it! The cheesecake was the most creamy delicious cheesecake I have ever had. Our waiter was always attentive to our table and the service was perfect. I cannot say enough other than it is truly the best Italian Restaurant I have ever been to and will surely make it a regular visit every time I am in DC. Be sure to save some room for dessert and watch for the surprise at the end when they bring you complimentry Sambucca and Amaretto to your table. Unbelievable!
I've been a customer of Piccolo's since their beginning, and I absolutely love it! Their staff always treat me like family--everyone makes a point to say hello, no matter how busy they are. All their food is prepared well, but my favorites are the fried calamari, spiced shrimp appetizer, garlic bread, eggplant, caramelized onion and goat cheese appetizer, Caesar salad, linguine with white clam sauce, veal chop, steak, fettuccine alfredo, and for dessert their tiramisu (they make it themselves). they also have great specials which vary week to week. Also, their soups are homemade and all the ones I have had are delicious--just like my mom used to make! I bring friends there all the time, and am constantly telling people about it. Everyone that I have sent there have come back raving about the delicious food and romantic ambience. I have also held many dinner parties there, and have always had a great time--their prices are very reasonable, and they even personalized the menu for my daughter's graduation dinner! The staff take great care of me and my guests. I highly recommend this restaurant!!!
Paper Moon definitely did not disappointed me. Prices were reasonable, wine was very good, server was knowledgeable, discreet, helpful and polite, and the food was absolutely wonderful. Having been to Italy twice and looking forward to a third time we're always skeptical when a restaurant advertises as authentic Italian but it was apparent from the beginning the Chef takes his Italian food very seriously. I had the $8 calamari for an appetizer which was heaped up on a plate and mixed in with fresh peeled tomatoes, olives, and I believe red pepper, a presentation I had not had before (it usually comes with some sort of icky sticky sauce) and it was wonderful, perfectly tender yet light and fresh tasting. wife had the salmon carpaccio which was recommended by the manager which too was excellent. For dinner I had the lobster ravioli which was al dente as pasta should be, rich yet not heavy. But the wife hit the jackpot with the Osso bucco . It was just flat out delicious.
My spouse and I took the kids for dinner to Paper Moon. We were very pleased. The host checked our reservation and took us straight to a nice quite table fit for our young kids. The dishes suggested by the waiter (Ben) such as, my Lobster Fra Diavlo was delicious, I had no problem with my kids as they were able to order from a variety of pasta they have on their menu. Even my husband, who is difficult to satisfy, enjoyed the fish entree suggested by our waiter, as a seafood choice. Overall, the greeting, atmosphere and treatment, and the price considering it was dinner time, exceeded our expectation. If you are to go out for an Italian romantic or family dinner, do not miss some of the best of Washington DC restaurant such as Paper Moon.
La Tomate may attract diners from around the city and even around the world, but to me, it's my neighborhood spot. The know me here. They seem to know EVERYBODY here. From the smile and handshake when you walk through the door, you know you're in a place that cares about you. The food is nothing flashy, but it's nearly always perfect, and there is enough variety to satisfy any palette. Good wine list, too. Occasionally, the wait service can be a little uneven, but usually it's fine. The best tables are those along the copious windows that look out onto Connecticut Ave or, for al fresco dining, the patio. But don't take the 4-seater in the Southwest corner -- that one is mine!
I ordered the arugula salad which was supposed to come with dried cranberries which didn't, but the waitress was quick to apologize and informed me that they were out. I' m a bit picky, i chose the arugula salad because of the cranberries so the waitress changed the appetizer for me with no problems what so ever. I ended up getting their salmon Carpacio which I really enjoyed and thought it's a better choice to have some protein added up!! My friend started with the mushroom caps, unbelievably delicious!, it's basically jumbo Portobello mushrooms stuffed with perfectly seasoned crab meat, so good! While we were done with the appetizers, our entrees arrived right away.
eliana did my hair and color many many times and i think she is a wonderful hair dresser. She is very creative and always does whatever you ask her to do. She is a friend that you can confide in with all of your problems, she always gives good advice. also the prices are always very reasonable every time i go there. i have the read other reviews and i disagree with guest g. eliana is wonderful and trustworthy. i have been there so many times and i never had any problems with her or anyone else in the salon. go and see her you will not regret it!! In my opinion, Papermoon has the best Italian food in all of DC! The food is real, authentic, and delicious Italian cuisine. The service is always great and welcoming. I always start off the Insalata Di Endivia, a Belgian endive salad with toasted walnuts and gorgonzola chesse in a raspberry dressing. If I'm extra hungry, I'll order the mushroom caps or fried calamari as an appetizer. For the main course, I usually always order one of their exquisite veal dishes. The veal sorrento, veal with mushrooms, and sun-dried tomatoes in a brandy cream sauce, is absolutely to die for
Having lived in Naples, Italy for 3 years I can honestly tell you that the pizza here is as close to Neapolitan style pizza as I have found. The appetizers they have out are all safe to be out... Bean salads, specialty cheese, sardines, cured meats... The list goes on and on. They have many apps in the cold fridge behind the bar that they pull out when ordered. In fact there have been a many a time that the wife and i have gone and had 3-4 apps and not even had pizza! We count ourselves lucky to live only a few blocks away because the beer and wine selection is staggerrific
I was really surprised to discover that the food was awesome and the service welcoming and attentive! A nice and polite Maitre Dee offered a small table by the window. Next to it I recognized "the middle-age Italian sweet" waiter described in the negative review that motivated my choice. I declined the offer and pointed to another table in the back hoping for a different server. Despite a hesitating look and his Hispanic accent, my waiter was perfectly able to sell me a $45 prix fixed menu that includes a free glass of wine implementing the 4th course.
