The ambiance is comfortable and casual. In Summer, the outdoor patio is a good seating choice. It can be hard to get a table (and don't let them seat you by the front door!), but if you aren't in a hurry, it can be worth the wait. The food is usually very interesting -- lots of locally-produced and seasonal items done up in appealing ways. The beer choices are above average (good Belgian selection usually). The one drawback (other than prices that are just wee bit high) is the service -- seems to be a lot of turnover in the wait staff and service has been uneven at best. We've had wait staff who were very friendly and attentive, but others who should have been asking "you want fries with that" at some fast food dive. Still, if we're in the mood for a bite and a beer before or after the theater, Saint-Ex is on our short list of enticing places.

Annie's Paramount Steak House has been serving up steaks and other American-style food for decades. There's nothing fancy about it. The food is basic fare -- tasty but nothing special. For special, go to Ruth's Chris Steak House or Morton's. Still, it's hard to find a good, basic steak and potatoes dinner in this neighborhood and Annie's fills that niche. They are open late and serve breakfast into the wee hours, so that's when you'll find me and a lot of other people dropping in. The gay community has been patronizing Annie's since it opened and the bar/restaurant has been loyal and supportive in return. There's a vibe here that is part "had a little too much to drink" and part "the party's not over yet". Try it.
Ruth's Chris' Steak Houses, born and bred in New Orleans and now scattered around the country, have a limited menu -- pretty much steak and lobster. But if you can be satisfied with steak or lobster, you'd be well advised to give Ruth's Chris a try. The steaks, especially, are mouth-wateringly good. Thick, juicy cuts of the finest aged beef done to order and to perfection. The sides are surprisingly good as well. And the waitstaff is knowledgeable and efficient. Get a window seat to watch the pedestrians ramble by, or choose a more isolated table for a romantic dining experience. The bartender puts out some nice libations, too.
