Where Fabulous Lives!

It's off the beaten path and the hordes that descend upon the Smithsonian don't often venture away from the Mall, but they should, because Hillwood is well worth the trip. On the other hand, the smaller crowds make a day at Hillwood far more enjoyable for the rest of us. Hillwood is a mansion, the former home of Marjorie Merriweather Post, heir to the Post Cereals fortune. In the 1920s through 1973, she ran her business, toured the world, hosted the richest and most politically powerful people in the world, and amassed an incredible collection of fine antiques, jewelry, and art, including one of the finest Russian art collections in the world. Now it's all on display at Hillwood where you can also tour a greenhouse full of orchids, several sculpted gardens and have lunch (or high tea!) in their cafe. Just a short walk from the Van Ness Metro stop. Hillwood - where fabulous lives!

Trilby's Svengali was a character of fiction. Conversely, Marc Breed, has captivated a generation with such a unique and engaging personality that we've allowed him the ultimately luxury of a true freedom. The Art he has created, as a result of this, only seems odd; in that we view it while tinged with envy. That we in Cleveland possess such a close-up look, should be a source of extreme pride. For we may live vicariously through his artistic rampage among us. -Dr. Stanley Workman, Art History, Professor Emeritus http://artistmarcbreed.blogspot.com/

Washinton Zoo

The best think about the Washington Zoo: it's free. We always take the metro train to the zoo. It is a good walk ater you get off the train, but my son always enjoyed the train ride. The zoo itself is big and hilly so you will do plenty of walking. go early if it is going to be a hot day. The food is a little costly so you might want to bring a lunch and some water. There is lots of animals to see so i don't think your children will go home disappointed.
