You will not find a better Taekwondo program in the East Bay. It blends the traditional martial arts education with the modern sport of Taekwondo giving its students a well-balanced education. Beware of schools that try to sign you up to long term contracts, invite you to special clubs that cost extra but promise you a black belt in a shorter period of time, or talk incessantly about their certifications and awards. Let the quality of the instruction and the school do the talking. You won't find any misleading claims of being part of an Olympic team only a dedicated team of athletes who train hard and aspire to greatness but carry themselves with quiet air of humility. You won't find puffed up instructors walking around with all sorts of awards and self-appointed titles making you swear absolute loyalty but instructors whose driving force is to give back to the students that come after them what martial arts has given them. Let other schools write all the false reviews they want about Sparta but the proof is in pudding. You can wear a black belt or you can be a black belt the choice is your but I can promise you this, if you earn your black belt at Sparta, it will be an accomplishment that you will be proud of for the rest of your life.

My buddy told me about the Haganah program there and convinced me to try it out. I love it! I've only gone a few times, but I think I'm going to make it full time now. So far, I've learned gun and knife defense that I could apply to 4 scenarios. There's regular hand self defense that goes with it too. It's a good work out and easy to learn. The guys there taught me to funnel it all down to one move that means if I can get there the fight is practically over. You don't have to wear a uniform or anything and this kind of program is only meant for the die hard serious people who really want to learn to defend themselves. It's very straight to the point, and I don't feel like i'm wasting my time. Some of the tactics can be brutal...But it's either that or get killed..so I'm glad to be learning. It's a good outlet for my stress, and we practice with the real intensity of the situation in mind. I'm going to bring my teenage brother in to do it with me soon so that he can learn too.
This school is the best around!! You should definitely enroll in their program. They have all the correct certifications and their instructors are recognized by the NCTA, California Taekwondo Association, and Kukkiwon. Their master and black belts are all registered by the World Taekwondo Federation in Korea. They also have instructor certification! They have a very flexible class schedule with a variety of lessons. This school provides their students with an excellent facility, staff, and a knowledge of good martial arts. Self-defense, Olympic sparring, Demonstration, Breaking, weapons. They also teach their students about taekwondo philosophy, history, and culture. This is a first rate school! It focuses not only on the physical aspect but also allows their students to grow as human beings. The instructors are very patient and have taught my kids many life lessons about respect and perseverance. My family DEFINITELY recommends Kang's Taekwondo Academy ~A8 Family
