This is the only place in Victoria I prefer to get groceries from. The meat is a better quality than the competition like Walmart and this is the only grocery store I trust getting it from. The produce is also in better condition. There's never a problem with the lines as they keep enough lanes open and the self-checkouts are convenient for a quick in and out. They also have some items I can't find anywhere else in this town, like gelato. But the biggest reason I love this store is the beer and wine section. For being in a grocery store, the selection is great. You can find foreign beers from Belgium right down to Guinness and the regular macro brewery stuff like Bud Light. The wine selection is also great for a store of this type and consistently surprises me by offering gourmet items. I saw Dom Perignon and Cristal there once, along with several other genuine champagnes. Call me surprised. The layout is convenient, with the food concentrated around the perimeter of the store and the general merchandise in the middle and the employees are always friendly and willing to help you. If you have a problem or a question, they are good about solving it and act professional, which I like. It's also nice that they offer baggers as an extra service at checkout. Walmart makes you take your own bags. I love this store.
Half the staff here is adequate and the other half worthless. It's 50/50 depending on who you get. One of the women there in particular is about the worst worker I've ever seen. Her attitude is very poor and when (or IF) she bothers to speak to you, she sounds exasperated and like she hates her job. Her forced 'thank you' at the end sounds like it causes her actual physical pain to get out. It's the most 'I'm only saying this because they make me' line you will ever hear. If the job is that bad, quit. And often the employees will have friends there visiting them that stand right beside the counter where you check out and talk to them while they're ringing you up. It's pretty unprofessional and yet I've seen them do this several times. I can understand an emergency but they have friends standing around gossiping and one time an employee's friend was asking her if she was going to go get drunk with them later and another time they were discussing relationships. I've worked in service and that's a big no no.
My man and I had a wonderful experience at the Pumphouse on our date night. We are new parents to a 4month old girl and haven't gotten out much in the past months. The live acoustic tunes were entertaining throughout the evening. The entire experience from start to finish was perfect! Everything from the first sip of my subtle pinot noir, to the last bite of my mini banana pudding desert-which was delectable. The cheesy Mac-n-cheese appetizer bites were yummy to start off the meal. I chose the spinach salad with the sweet raspberry dressing for my meal--it was mouth watering! Also service was an A+! We are going back tonight!
