He received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia,Â Pennsylvania, where he was awarded the Alfred I. DuPont Pediatric Prize for â€œthe student whose performance best demonstrates the qualities of academic and clinical excellence, human compassion, and commitment to the welfare of others.â€ He completed his internship and residency at the University of Wisconsin Childrenâ€™s Hospital, and then spent one year teaching clinical pediatrics at the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital in Gloucester, England. He completed a fellowship in allergy/immunology at the internationally recognized National Jewish Medical and Research Center in Denver, Colorado. It is the only medical and research center in the U.S. devoted entirely to respiratory, allergic, and immune system diseases. While at National Jewish, he cared for both adults and children with severe asthma, allergy, and immune disorders.
