When getting Indian, my family and I usually get the same 4 dishes and then split them all up so we each get a nice variety of flavors. The point being, that I have had the opportunity to try the same 4 dishes at many different restaurants so I have a good base on which to rate them (I know, poor me, right?)!
Anyway, Utsav ranked right up there with the top examples in every dish. There aren't many Indian restaurants in the area, and this one is definitely the best in the I-84 (East of Hartford) corridor.
Aside from the food, the interior is pleasant, and makes a pleasant place to sit for dinner, unlike many of the florescent lit plastic boothed places out there.
Prices are about in line with similar places, however they regularly have coupons floating around and they are generous and flexible in allowing their use.
Avoid it at all cost. Boycott it!
This restaurant deserves a negative star! Never have I been so insulted.
A couple of Indian coworker recommended this place so I decided to give a a try.
The moment I step in with a friend, it was clear that we were not welcomed. I guess you have to be white or Indian to be considered worthy of this place.
We were just ignored by the waiting staffs. After a few minutes, I asked if there's a table for two. a waiter just grunted something intelligible. That repeated with another waiter. Not one of them greeted us.
Then, someone came out and without saying a word showed us the smaller table there is -- all 2 square foot big and then walked off without a word. There were plenty of tables around. I saw several white folks came in and they were treated in a much more civil way. I started to get the picture. We are not welcomed.
Seeing I could not even fit in the table and there are 5 or 6 bigger ones around, I asked if I could get another table. The "host" basically yelled! Yelled that this is my table and that's it.
So I walk out in disgust. I am going to spread the words in my office first thing in the morning.
Avoid this hell hole at all cost.
