These are the best tamales! Moist, delicious. I am 52 years old, and I can remember when we were kids my mom telling my dad, " only get the tamales from La Mascota"! My mom is a great cook; she always would tell us she knows how to make tamales from scratch. But when we would ask her to make some, she would say, "we'll just buy them from La Mascota". They are that good. When our relatives come from Mexico, they feast on tamales from La Moscota. Be warned; during the Holidays get there early. I get there at 5:30 AM and have to wait in line. Get there after 4 PM and you may find that they have sold out.
I have tried the most well known famous cupcake "joints" in town and they are just filled with a sack of C&H sugar with food coloring. This bakery takes the time to make their cupcakes in small batches with lots of love. My favorite is the red velet! They are worth the drive and parking has never been a problem for me. I will drive around until a spot opens up because these are the only cupcakes I ever want to eat or give away as a gift. They are simple, fresh and beautifully presented. I always feel great after having one of their cupcakes and it always brightens my day or night!!!
My sister got my birthday cake from Lupitas and I was so impressed when I opened the box. She's gotten several of her cakes from there, but she also got my nephew's cake there that was shaped like a basketball, I thought that was very creative in itself. As far as taste, it is one of the most delicious non-homemade cakes I've ever had and almost everyone who ate it wanted to know where it came from. So this is definitely the place for cakes, plust they open early so you can get the cake out of the way when decorating.
