At the Advanced Periodontal Center, we use digital radiographic imaging instead of traditional film-based x-rays. Digital radiographic imaging reduces the amount of radiation you receive during your visit to our office by up to 90% when compared to the exposure rates of traditional dental x-rays.

Veneers
Another technique to fix a gummy smile is called a esthetic crown lengthening. This technique is used when your teeth are small and making them larger would be appropriate. Often, people have the white enamel under all the extra gum tissue and do not need veneers or crowns when the crown lengthening is finished. Some people do not have white enamel hiding under the gum tissue, and will need veneers or crowns after the crown lengthening. We can measure and let you know whether you will need veneers or crowns, or if the crown lengthening alone will take care of your gummy smile.
Crowns
Crown lengthening (or crown exposure) is required when your tooth needs a new crown or other restoration. The edge of that restoration is deep below the gum tissue and not accessible. It is also usually too close to the bone or below the bone.
Bridges
The bone that holds the tooth in place (the socket) is often damaged by disease and/or infection resulting in a jaw deformity when the tooth is extracted. These jaw deformities can create major problems in performing restorative dentistry, whether your treatment plan involves dental implants, fixed bridges, removable dentures, or reshaping your gumline for a more pleasing smile. Jaw deformities from tooth removal can be prevented and repaired by a procedure called socket preservation. Socket preservation can greatly improve your smile's appearance and increase your chances for successful dental implants and other restorations for years to come.

I would like to thank you again for the excellent care that you and your staff have provided. As I mentioned before, I have had periodontal surgery before (over 20 years ago). Jaw Surgery
At age 17 I was diagnosed with jaw and facial asymmetry that made one side of my smile show a lot of gum. The proposed orthognathic jaw surgery to correct the problem was very complicated, expensive, requires general anesthesia, and a prolonged recovery. After many years of feeling hopeless due to financial concerns and health risks that my dream surgery offered, Dr. Ortiz-Ramsey offered an alternative procedure to correct my smile. Her simple and minor surgical approach corrected my smile with minimal recovery, a very affordable cost, and little discomfort. This revolutionary procedure has dramatically changed and improved my smile and confidence.
Gum Surgery
My name is Carl and I had the LANAP surgery a few weeks ago. I was very apprehensive about getting this done because over the years I have become more sensitive to pain at the dentist's office, however, I took a happy pill right before the surgery and had the nitrous gas during the surgery and to my delight, the surgery was virtually painless. Shortly after the surgery, I was back to eating (except for chips, nuts, and popcorn) and doing the things I normally do. Dr Ortiz-Ramsey and Jenny the assistant were very delightful and professional (plus Jenny will keep you laughing). I've been told for several years that I needed gum surgery, however, my wife had conventional gum surgery a few years ago and the pain of this surgery had me scared to death to do it. The bottom line is the LANAP surgery is the bomb!
Osseous Surgery
Gum disease is treated by eliminating the periodontal pockets. Traditionally the infected gum tissue is trimmed away and uneven bone tissue is recontoured. This is still an effective way of treating gum disease, especially in isolated areas. Conventional pocket reduction surgery may cause undesirable gum recession, especially in esthetic areas. In such cases other options should be considered including Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP).
Ridge Augmentation
Dr. Ortiz-Ramsey can fill in this "defect" with a procedure called ridge augmentation, recapturing the natural contour of your gums and jaw. A new tooth can then be created that is natural looking, easy-to-clean and beautiful.
Bone Grafting
In special situations, bone grafting techniques may help you regain some of the lost bone due to periodontal disease. There are a variety of techniques available to Dr. Ortiz-Ramsey to help grow new bone tissue depending on your unique circumstance. New biologically active gels and growth factors help stimulate and enhance bone growth so that we can help your body re-grow bone that has been lost.

Orthodontics
For the upper front frenum, a frenectomy is often postponed until the permanent lateral incisors and permanent canines erupt (permanent canines usually erupt about 11-13 years old). This recommendation is based on the fact that when the laterals and canines erupt, they will generally close the early diastema (space) between the permanent central incisors. If a frenum is large it may be done sooner and as early as 7 or 8 years old. If the diastema is not closed by normal eruption of the upper anterior permanent teeth, a frenectomy may be helpful, although orthodontics may also be necessary. Exceptions to postponing the frenectomy would be evidence on a radiograph of a notching in the bone between the central incisors or evidence of recession on the adjacent teeth. If recession has already occurred a gum graft may also be necessary.
Braces
I had braces, gum contouring and veneers done, which helped a lot but still didn't fix a problem. Thus, I started looking for other possible procedures. Searching on the Internet I had stumbled upon a lip repositioning surgery. It sounded as a perfect solution for me, but there was very few doctors who performed that procedure. I was looking for a doctor with a lot of experience and a great understanding of my needs. I found a perfect match! And not to far from home. I had a consultation with Dr Ortiz-Ramsey. As soon as I spoke with her I had realized it was a right choice. Dr Ortiz-Ramsey was very through and upfront about the procedure which made me feel very confident. Almost two years later I am still enjoying results of this wonderful procedure. I recommend Dr. Ortiz-Ramsey to all my friends and family.
