I first went to the restaurant for lunch some time ago last summer with a co-worker that really loved the enchiladas here. Back then I didn't go for the enchiladas, which looked and smelled good, but instead I tried their chicken soup and the traditional puffy taco. One thing about puffy tacos is that they are very easy to mess up when making but if done right they can be a good eat. And they were. The dough they use was just right in consistency and suprisingly it did not come out soggy like other places. The chicken was juicy and very flavorful. The soup was also really good and I was told by the waiter that they make it daily and it typically runs out by lunch time. I went back to Janitzios this Sunday and luckily found a seat. The first impressive thing was the complimentary fruit bar that my kids loved. I am so happy that they serve the fruit because I dont have to worry about my kids only eating bean and cheese tacos for lunch. Now I can count on them enjoying the fruit. I did try then enchiladas and I must say they are about the best I have ever tried. The enchilada sauce has a rich meaty flavor with a hint of different spices that really come together good. We all had the enchilada plate (and I had my puffy taco) and we fell in love with the food. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a warm family environment and good food. The price is not to high which really helps out. Thank you all.
1. Alamo Cafe
No matter what you order, fresh made tortillas you get. This place has great food for a fabulous price. Just be aware, you may pass this place up trying to find it, so drive slow when you exit I-10. With 2 locations in SA, this place is a ""must eat there"" restaurant.
PLACE WAS PACKED, TABLES DIRTY EVERY WHERE, WAITED TOO LONG TO GET OUR WAITRESS TO COME TAKE OUR ORDER, THEN WAITED JUST AS LONG TO GET OUR 1LB OF BARBACOA WE ORDERED. FOOD IS GOOD, SERVICE IS LACKING: MAYBE MORE PERSONNEL EVERYWHERE.
Mamacitas is SO GOOD! They have the best chicken flautas I've ever had. They are my absolute favorite! In addition to good entres, they serve the most delicions "green stuff" before the meal. It's a cilantro avocado sauce eaten with chips. I can't get enough! The service is usual…
I go to TOMMYS about 3-5 times a week. I don't cook much. This little restaurant on Wurzbach has caught my attention for about a year. The food is great and the service has changed and everyone is so CHEERful. If you go in sit on the right side (near the front) of the restaurant the waitress…
This is THE very best Madre y Padre Mexican Food Restaurant of San Antonio. True, if you want good food and all the colorful pottery, birds squawking in your ears and a bunch of yankee gringas telling you how to order good food on the riverwalk, go there. But, if you want GREAT food at a nice pr…
Very sad to say the service was extremely slow. I am actually not exaggerating... There were two tables besides our party, and it took ONE HOUR For the food to arrive. Food was ok, but nothing of a good Latin American kitchen. Maybe it was one of those days that ppl just don't want to work and t…

The staff is friendly and the food is ok at best. I hate that when I order a bean n cheese to go for my son he won't eat it and when I try eating it for it not to go to waste I understand why. The beans are dry scrapes off the pan with some cheese sprinkled on it. Tortillas always look burned. I…

I needed something different so I decided to stop at this place. The food did not take long to make and they make it when you order it. I took it to go so I cant really comment on the table service but the lady who took my order was very nice and friendly. They do not have a website so I actually had to walk in to place my order since I didnt have a menu. Let me just say they are NOT cheap witht he portions. The meal had plenty of meat and lots of vegetables too. Im not into fried rice but my son is and he ate pretty much all of it. The eggrolls were good too. They have lunch specials from 11 am to 3 pm for $5.25 and $5.75 which is not bad at all. They dont have a daily special so you can pick from a long list of dishes for lunch. I was happy with the food and would definitely go back.
I am from Houston and have been in San Antonio for over a year and I had not found a Mexican restaurant that had really lived up to my expectations! I had a friend take me to Panchitos this Sunday and I didnt know what to expect, the place is not very big and when we walked in you have to wait in line to order. I ordered a menudo, a guisada taco and a barbacoa taco and my taste buds were in for a real treat! If you are looking for an up-scale place this is not for you, but the place is well kept, clean and the people that work there were really friendly, even the manager was walking around and gave us a refill on our coffee, which saved us a trip to the coffee station. I do believe that I have found my new favorite hole in the wall.
We went to the SATX location today for an early mother's day treat and we were amazed at our experience! Nothing disappointed. I can't believe how heavenly everything was. It wasn't the portion size, it was the TASTE DELIGHT!!!! The meal itself wasn't the only thing that pleased it was all of waitstaff/employees as well. Whatever they have done there should definitely be bottled and sold nationwide! OPEN more locations I want to brag about this place to my brothers and sisters and they all live out of town! ;-) I know our family will be going again.
This is one of my favorite spots to pick up breakfast tacos or grab a quick lunch. The food is really good! I love the homemade flour and corn tortillas. I have tried everything from the burgers w/avocado, the barbacoa, the oatmeal, pancakes n eggs, tortas, to the enchiladas. The wait staff during the day could use some customer service training and not all the waitresses speak English. Which I don't mind but the English community I'm sure would appreciate it. I've met the owners n their wonderful people. Good food!
I go to TOMMYS about 3-5 times a week. I don't cook much. This little restaurant on Wurzbach has caught my attention for about a year. The food is great and the service has changed and everyone is so CHEERful. If you go in sit on the right side (near the front) of the restaurant the waitress that takes care of those tables is just GREAT! The food reminds me of home-cooked meals from my mom and grandma. Great Portions, Little Price.
Located just past the Wurzbach Parkway off of Perrin Beitel Road and just a walk away from the main Post Office, From the chicken puffy tacos to its unique salsa, Hungry Jose offers a delectable array of homemade Mexican food at affordable prices. The restaurant itself is neat and clean and the service is good. The atmosphere is one where families and friends can gather and meet. I would recommend Hungry Jose to anyone!
This is THE very best Madre y Padre Mexican Food Restaurant of San Antonio. True, if you want good food and all the colorful pottery, birds squawking in your ears and a bunch of yankee gringas telling you how to order good food on the riverwalk, go there. But, if you want GREAT food at a nice price, come here. Tell Oscar Sr. and Mama Dora the Pickett s sent you!!
My family and I went to Casa Linda Mexican Restaurant today to pick up breakfast. The owner was there and greeted my husband with a hand shake. This is a cute little place. The food was so delicious and the price wasn't bad either. I would recommend this place. I cant wait to go back and try some lunch/dinner :-) They've made a regular customer out of us.
