have always dreaded moving day...

have always dreaded moving day, all the more so since I had lived in my apartment for almost 20 years, and this was the first time I had to deal with a move. Over the course of a year and after much online research, several phone calls, and numerous e-mail messages to various movers, I settled on peace of mind to handle the task. Michelle was most helpful in taking my information, asking questions, and offering suggestions -- such as where to find good quality moving boxes on the cheap. This was probably the most important aspect of why I decided on peace of mind: it was the super helpfulness. Unknown to them (until now) is that they were the ONLY mover who did not bombard me with follow-up calls and e-mails reminding me of my initial inquiry, something I found most annoying because I had made it clear (I thought) in my initial contact to let the mover know that I was not ready to move then, just setting the groundwork. (As it turned out, my initial contacts happened almost a year before I was able to find a place that met my needs.) Thus, when I finally found my perfect house, I again contacted peace of mind to arrange the move. Much to my surprise, Michelle remembered me and still had all the information I had submitted. Moving day came much too soon. John and his crew of three arrived early within the time-frame, and went to work immediately carrying out boxes and furniture. Each of the young men on the crew helped me pack the things that were still unboxed. For such a stressful event as moving, the good-natured banter with the movers helped make it a more enjoyable experience. I had to stay behind to clean the apartment, thus we trailed the truck by a very strong half-hour or more. When we arrived at the destination, the crew was already there waiting for us in the heat, taking a well-deserved break before hauling my stuff into the various rooms of my new abode. In summary: I would definitely hire this company again, and would recommend them strongly. Everything went very smoothly from start to finish. Punctuality was superb. The crew was a delight to deal with, very hard-working, not just polite but friendly and engaging. Nothing was broken, nor was anything missing. Every one showed care in how things were handled, and they were willing to move things to other rooms when I found I had mislabeled some boxes.
When Michelle and I talked just before the move, the quote she gave me was right-on with the actual charges on the day of the move. This is one very satisfied customer. Hats off to peace of mind and the crew.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I WO...

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I WON a LAWSUIT against them this week!

I contracted with Peace of Mind Relocation, Inc. to move my belongings from California to Iowa. I signed a non-binding agreement with them for $1556.

Now a non-binding agreement with a moving company who operates legally under the Department of Transportation, means that the mover gives you an estimate of what your belongings would cost based on most likely not seeing your items in person ahead of time. When you contract for this, you’re allowing the mover to charge you more if they find that you have more goods/additional costs than anticipated. This is reasonable. And with this non-binding agreement, you are only obligated to pay up to 110% of the original quote (or balance of that 110% if you gave a deposit, 50%, etc. when move was performed) when they arrive to deliver your goods. If the balance owed is MORE than 110% of the original quote (which it can be) than you are only obligated to pay up to the 110% total, they must give you your goods, and you must make good on the remaining balance within 30 days.

What Peace of Mind did, is have me hire their company for this move, under the non-binding agreement, quote which I did. The movers came (arriving 7 hours late), packed up my goods, then the foreman-Sergio- presented me with a new revised BINDING agreement that was for TWICE the original quote in the amount of almost $3000. It is okay for the moving company to change from a non-binding to a binding once they inventory your goods and deem it more than the original quote. However- and this is key- a binding agreement must be made and signed BEFORE any work is started. The reason for this is because a binding agreement locks the customer into the new price no matter how much it differs from the original quote, and the full amount must be paid to deliver goods.

What the mover cannot do (which is what Peace of Mind does) is get you to sign a non-binding agreement and place a deposit. Then they show up at your place, load all of your belongings first, then slap you with an inflated price and call it a binding agreement; they refuse to deliver your items, refuse to tell you where your items are, and instead keep it hostage while demanding more and more money until you pay all of it and then some (whatever ludicrous costs they can come up with) and eventually you MAY get your stuff. 53 days later I had to go get my stuff from where they'd abandoned it at a storage facility, my items were damaged from them taking off the packing material, boxes were opened, items were missing, and they'd been given over $4000. I did not allow them to get away with this. I filed a lawsuit in California for the state maximum in smalls claims court for $10,000 to cover the damaged and missing belongings, the inflated price I ended up paying and punitive damages. I won this case against them for $8000 as the judge did not award punitive damages. Peace of Mind appealed the case, bringing it to a superior court and hired an attorney to represent them. At that hearing, the judge told the lawyer that his clients are “SCAMMERS” and he awarded me the full amount of $10,000. Do not USE THIS COMPANY!

My biggest mistake was to not ...

My biggest mistake was to not look at yelp before choosing this company. Learn from the rest of us. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! First off, they charge to use their moving pads, which was not told to me until they got here. In fact, I'm certain I was told otherwise. We have our own pads, so I said just use ours or we will use ours to wrap it up. To which they said it's a liability. Are you serious? That should have been my first clue to cancel it, but we needed to be out asap and they were already there. So, I went along with it. I asked the guys if they can help load our own truck and trailer, since we have a lot of things. They said no problem. But when I left they told my husband it's a liability, so they didn't. I also had told them that they may need to do more than one trip and if that would be a problem. They said no problem. But after the first trip they took off leaving a lot of stuff at our old place. Quite honestly, at that point I wanted them out of my house anyways, but I'm getting ahead of myself... So, all of those things I may be able to somewhat over look. Maybe it really was a liability and someone sued them before (we do live in California). Maybe they were running short on time, because they had another move or one of their wives were in labor. IDK their situation. I can't assume why they didn't come through. It was the additional things that really upset us. They tell you they have wardrobe boxes you can use for free, like most places. This is true. What they don't tell you is they only have two. Huh? Two wardrobe boxes for a family of four? I couldn't even fit mine and my husband's clothes in those two boxes. They said, we can wrap up the rest of your clothes in moving pads. So, they want to charge me extra to use their moving pads for our clothes which I will later have to spend more money on washing them, because only the good Lord knows what they've had in them or done to those moving pads. Uhhh, gross and no. Let's talk about more hidden charges, beyond the moving pads. We had packed all of our stuff prior to them coming and they used what seemed like a half of a roll of tape on every box. I told them not to use more tape, as they are sufficiently packed. Again "it's a liability". Is that the only word they know? First of all, we used better tape than the crap tape they used and overcharged for AND some of our stuff was never opened, so they were in the original packaging from the manufacturers. Knowing they charge way too much for that darn tape, I went out and bought tape and told them to use that. Did they? Of course not, it probably was a liability. They did used our packing materials(such as bubble wrap) to pack up items like our tv and charged me $100 for just the tv. Because wrapping bubble wrap around a tv is somehow a skill that requires to be paid $1200/hr to do (assuming it takes 5 minutes to wrap a tv set... maybe I need to change my profession). They unloaded all of the boxes where ever they felt like it, completely disregarding where we asked them to put them. Oh! We took a quick break to eat some lunch. After we were done, my husband, friends and I went back to moving and they were laying on the floor "relaxing" for at least another 20 minutes. Are you serious? They left dings on the walls, in some places they took out large chunks of the wall. They scrapped up our floors. It was horrible. They said they would have someone call us about it. No one has. I don't even want to call them about it, because I don't ever want anything to do with them again. Oh ya! We paid the same amount of money for another company to move us 2 hours away with two large moving trucks who didn't destroy our house as we paid for them to move us 10 miles away with one truck!!! Why? Because they put so many miscellaneous moving charges that we told them we did not approve of!!! STAY CLEAR OF THIS SCAM!!!

This company is horrible, for ...

This company is horrible, for lack of a better word. They seemed very nice when they were loading up our merchandise, but they refused to give an estimate until after we had no choice but to deal with the price. They lied about their first estimate, and kept adding hidden fees. They lied about the delivery date as well. This company should've been shut down a long time ago.

I tried to talk professionally with the employees, but they threw insults and acted rude toward me and my family. They deserve to be thrown out of business for the way they do "business." Definitely reporting them to the BBB.

Peace of Mind? HA. More like Peace of You Know What.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY.

NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THEM.

YOU WILL WAIT WEEKS.

AND YOUR THINGS WILL BE BROKEN AND/OR STOLEN.

Disgusting.

If I could give them a zero or a negative review, TRUST ME.

I WOULD.

Stay away from this company! They are both unprofessional and rude. They took FOREVER to deliver my items and, even then, they lost items that cannot be replaced. Over the course of FOUR AND A HALF MONTHS I called numerous times with my concerns and they repeatedly blew me off.

LOST OR STOLEN ITEMS:

-$2,000 Martin guitar

-Frank Sinatra stemwear

-Sushi set and other kitchenware

-Bamboo blinds

The movers they hired have already admitted to still having my guitar and yet, nothing is being done to get it back to me. I am devastated. I even asked for the phone number to call the contracted movers myself, but I was denied the information. Absolutely. Devastated.

This is for the new customer. These people just fool the customers. Eventhough they will give you the quote for 3 men but actually only 2 men do the work and that is also not to their full capacity. They will try to eat maximum hours in order to bill you more and at the end they will bill you for some of the things they must have not clearly told you before.

SO PLEASE BEWARE OF THESE MOVERS. I WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND NOT TO USE THESE GUYS.

WORST COMPANY EVER!!!!! The sh...

WORST COMPANY EVER!!!!! The should shut their doors and do everyone a big favor. Everyone that works there is rude and unprofessional. Original quote was $3500 and had to pay $6000 + to get my stuff moved. Lots of broken stuff, scuffed up walls in new house, broken thermostat in new house, and lost some of our things. Every box marked fragile or glass was loaded on to the truck under all the other boxes. I even had a wardrobe box with all our good clothes in it end up being crushed down to the size of a small box because it had a table stacked on top of it??? I could go on forever about how bad they are. Even the driver of the subcontracted truck was surprised at how the trailer was loaded. That is a good point to make also, they do not employ any drivers for more than local moves and do not even have their own trucks. After our stuff was packed in one truck they moved it to another trailer (without letting us know) and had a subcontractor bring it cross country. The subcontractor was more professional and nice than anyone that works at that company.

Broken item:

Full box of coffee cups (cups from vacations)

Corning cooking dish (belonged to Mom)

Art easel (present for daughter from a teacher)

Flat screen TV stand

Wine glasses

Crock pot

Candy dish (Christmas present from daughter to Mom)

clothes washer and dryer (who loads these upside down in a truck!!!!!!!)

THE LIST GOES ON AND ON AND ON AND ON!!!!!!!!!!!

Lost items:

Personalized Louisville Slugger bat from family vacation.

Air compressor

Cisco router that was packed into a box with other items and that is the only thing missing from the box???????

We even ended up with someone's original print and they said "o well". I would like to return it to the owner, but don't know how to do it and this company said they don't care about that.

Peace of Mind Relocation

(877) 617-3223 1000 Town Center Dr., Suite 300, Oxnard, CA 93036 http://www.peacerelocation.com

Peace of Mind was very convincing the outset - when soliciting my business. In reality very very sloppy - unqualified and inexperienced movers; threw my items in boxes - no rhyme or reason to the boxes, no labeling, could not communicate clearly in english.

Prior to the weekend of the scheduled delivery (02/18/2012) I had asked the woman in charge of delivery to call me - confirming it. "I promise I'll call " she said on Thursday the 17th of February" - there was no call returned - the driver of the moving truck called the morning of the 18th and indicated he was on the way. I was totally unprepared - Peace of Mind did not accept credit cards or checks. It had to be cash. So I indicated that the next day or another day would be better. The driver said he would call me back - he never did. That same night (at 08:30pm at night!) Peace of Mind called me, threatening to "store" my items (at a cost to me) unless I agreed to accept deliver at 09:30pm at night(!) on the 18th of February. I had to desperately head out to go get the cash from a late night ATM. When the delivery arrived many items were either lost or damaged, the re-assembling of the furniture (per the agreement) did not happen. The driver left without assembling many of the items.

Damage List: 1) BIke (lost) 2) Filing Cabinet - dented 3) Coffee Table - damaged/dented 4) Dresser - all legs broken! 5) Chairs - legs missing (cannot use!) 6) Book shelf holders missing (cannot use!) 7) Broken urban rebounder (cannot use!)

And in the end, the actual cost was 2000.00 more! than originally anticipated.

Horrific, nauseating experience.

They quoted me $1500 for the move which I knew from the beginning that could have not been possible and I expected at the and to be more than than... but do you know how much the move will cost me?? $6000.

I moved a 1 beddrom apartment in San Francisco, how much stuff could have I ever had to increase the price by 400%? I could have understand $2/3K.. but $6k? Inacceptable.

More than that the final price was given to me after everything was loaded on the track and there was NOTHING for me to do at that point. This is not the right way to do business, thats the attitude of loan sharks.

MORE THAN THAT.

I could have even (unhappily) accepted the price, but what really pissed me off is that our stuff arrived with 15 days delay. They said there would have been no problem delivering our stuff on the date I asked.. but that didn't happen.

We had to sleep on the floor and spend money eating out every day for two weeks...

MORE THAN THAT.

I could have forget about the 400% price increase and the 2 weeks delay if the company would have provided me some kind of customer service... but not even that.

I have received NO updates from them, I had to call the company 10 times and the only answer I got was to call some other number for another office, so I called that number another 10 times to know where my house is... NOBODY bothered to answer the phones, nor return my messages beside the other day because I asked to talk with a manager.

THE WORST MOVING EXPERIENCE EVER

I was expecting at least a discount to reimburse me for all the trouble and money spent waiting for my stuff to arrive, but that didn't happen.

It's hard to find good moving companies.. but for your peace of mind don't chose this company!

The worst moving experience ever.

Everything went fine on the phone and booking the truck...

then the problems begin...

1) The quote that was given to me was by far too low to be true and quadruple when the movers actually loaded the truck.

2) They give you the final quote AFTER loading the truck when there is no way for you to do anything but accept it.

3) A ton of hidden fees!!! Tape, boxes, special boxes, price per step, crap, crap, crap.

3) The stuff arrived 2 weeks after the decided date.

3) No customer service what so ever, I had to call at least 20 times to have updates to know where my stuff was.. but they didn't even know they always told me to call some other number, and they didn't know either.

Very painful experience...

don't trust the very kind sales people on the phone, they give you false informations just to close the sale, they can care less about your move.

We moved from condo to a house on 11/2/11 within Los Angeles and used peace of mind moving company. 3 guys came to do the entire move. They were on time, courteous and well trained for the job. It took total of 8 hours for the complete move. We were very happy with the entire moving process. There were no damages. They delivered exactly what was said in the contract. We will definitely use them again if needed to move in future. We will recommend peace of mind moving company to our friends and families for their moving needs. We also took a good care of the guys for their hard work. peace of mind please Keep-up the good work:) Thank You!

Peace of Mind Relocation moving company did an awesome job moving us out of old office and into a new space. The movers were on time, did a great job of explaining everything to me, and then carefully packaged everything for the short ride to our new place. They quickly unloaded and I luckily did not have anything damaged in the process. I appreciated their help to get everything done quickly and I would definitely use them if I needed to move again

The services I needed from Peach of Mind involved packing and moving from a residential home to a storage facility. I did a lot of research and finally decided on Peace of Mind because they were competitive with their prices, thorough and very professional. Also, they were able to accommodate the date of my move. I hired them two days before the actual move. This was a big plus for me. Very important was that the three movers were prompt, professional, very efficient and hard working. They were very careful with all my furniture and more importantly with the fragile items. They have the best packing skills, everything was packed tightly and neatly. The loading and unloading was done with lots of care, nothing was damaged. I will definitely use this company again.

Peace movers arrived promptly ready to work. The secretary was great and she very good at estimating how long the moving job should take, she was polite also. The Movers had a professional appearance and they had company uniforms on. They worked hard from the moment they arrived until the moment they left. They placed all of my furniture exactly were I wanted it! My furniture arrived in perfect condition by the way. I will never dare go use another moving company if it isn't peace of mind movers. I highly recommend everybody use them!

I moved from Woodland Hills, CA to Purdy, MO and just received my delivery yesterday. I was very impressed with my move in its entirety. My estimate was true to the quote. I decided to take extra items that I didn't intend to originally take and they gave me a fair price for the difference. I received my items unrelated. The professionalism of both crews exceeded my expectations. Good job Peace of mind. I hope to never move again, but if I do I have the Peace of mind to use them again. A+++++++ service. Thank you.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not us...

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not use this company for your own sake. This company deserves ZERO stars. I do not ever write reviews, but I feel that passionate about trying to warn people from using this company since my experience was so horrible. All the other negative reviews of this company are very true.

I should have read the reviews on them before putting down the deposit, but I got a job and had to move immediately. I should have spent the time to research them.

Basically the summary of my experience entails:

*On pick up day, was suppose to arrive at 9AM, but did not come until 6PM. I did not get a phone call. I tried calling the office many times and no one answered.

*Hidden fees. LOTS OF THEM. My total turned out to be twice of what was estimated. This was after I dissected their contract and asked them about the questionable fees. They will try to charge you for everything, on pick up day and delivery day that was no where in the estimate.

*Not delivering your things for weeks on end. I was left stranded in a new city with NOTHING. They said my things would arrive in a day or two since my move was only from LA to SF. I did get my things for almost a month. They will not call you or contact you and when you try to contact them, it will be a nightmare.

*HORRIBLE correspondence. I called to ask for status of the arrival of my things many times, but would always get an answer that only one person in the office (usually "Natalie") knows anything about my status. The worst part was that she would always be out of the office. To get a hold of her, it usually took days.

*Broken trucks. On the day my things were suppose to be picked up, their truck was broken. My things were not delivered for almost a month. Again broken truck.

To be honest, I have so much more to say, but the purpose of my review here is to hopefully prevent others from the misery that I had to deal with. Hiring movers is suppose to make your move easier. Hiring Peace of Mind Relocation will make it a nightmare.

I booked this company for my local move from Sylmar to Pacoima (local storage) 5 minutes away. The only reason I booked with this company was because of the customer services I initially received from Vanessa, who was very helpful. Otherwise most companies charge about the same. I was asked what time I prefer my move, I was given the option from 9-11 am, I also gave a deposit to book my moving. The day before I was contacted at 4 pm and was told that my moving was confirm for the time between 1- 3 pm. By that time it was too late to cancel the reservation or make arrangements with another company. The movers got to my house on a Budget rental truck at 2:45 pm, and ended the job at 5:45 (3hrs) but I was charged for 4 hr… I think these movers were hired from Home Depot… I was also charged for fuel charges which I was not informed at the time of my reservation. I complaint to the supervisor, but was told that the company was really busy because of the time of the month and that moving was stressful anyway. The only other option was get another mover (3 instead of 2)but I had to pay the extra so that I could move on time. I had to pay for the company mismanagement of their schedule. As best practices, I recommend that the deposit be charged once the time has been confirmed, and inform customers of the fuel charge at the time of the reservation.

Using " Peace of Mind" was the worst decision of my life. Before your move you would think you are about to have the best Moving experience... untill moving day comes.....

First off they quoted me 10k. after i gave a detailed list of items. Day of, they upped the price by 5 THOUSAND DOLLARS. Could not fit all of my stuff in the truck they brought over. charged extra to bring a second truck over the next day and had the movers asking if they could "take some things off my hands so i wouldnt have to pay to move them."

Fast forward to Delivery day..... 5 OF MY 6 Antique dining room chairs were BROKEN. 2 broken side tables. 2 broken Dressers. They stole an ipod off of my toddlers bedroom floor....left an elliptical in the hallway because they didnt want to take the arms off to fit through a door. THEY disassembled my childs furniture but REFUSED to put it back together. At that point we told them to just put all of my things down and LEAVE. The 'leader' was so rude and short with us the entire time.

In the end after paying way too much, them destroying our brand new house walls and wood floors, we filed complaints and insurance offered back $600!!! $6 HUNDRED not THOUSAND. Each chair they destroyed cost at least $1000 alone.

It was a disaster and i beg of noone else to use this company so they will close down. FINGERS CROSSED!
