    This is a recent complaint I registered…

This is a recent complaint I registered with the Better Business Bureau. No response to date.

On 2/5/08, I placed a service call with Mr. Handyman in Lincoln Park. The chief complaint was a leaking faucet handle, (Cold Water) in the bathtub. The service technician said that he needed to drive 2 hours to the north side to get the faucets; (he said he would replace the hot water faucet while he was at it. Once the technician completed the job, everything seemed fine at first. As the week progressed my mother & I noticed a change in the temperature of the water. We would turn on all the "Hot Water", & some of the cold water, & all we got was cold water. We also noticed limited mobility in moving the cold water faucet handle. I called the technician,(Russ) to check this out on 2/21/08, in which time he said "it was the mixer" & he needed to replace the entire part. I was puzzled. I asked wasn't there something he could do to correct this? He said no, citing that the part is too old etc. Since the owner, Gary Rich was out of town, I told Russ that I would follow up with Mr. Rich. I sent an e-mail to Mr. Rich on 2/27/08 to explain the situation, & he agreed with Russ & said that the entire part needs to be replaced for an additional $79.00, in which time Russ had to drive the (2) hours to the Plumbing Supply Company again. I said how could (1) service call turn into (2) service calls? In all my 48 years in this house, we have never had problems with the water temperature. I don't need to be an expert plumber to know that I am being fed a bunch of baloney. I expect Mr. Handyman to do the right thing. The right thing is to correct this new problem & not have the gall to charge me additional money. This house is owned by my mother, who is a senior citizen, & yes, fooling me is like fooling her. This transaction was paid with cash in the amount of $217.50, in which the breakdown is as follows: Cost of materials: $142.50, which means just (2) faucet handles; Total labor: $30, which means, 15 minutes or less to install them, & a $45 service charge.

I expect Mr. Handyman, (Russ) to restore the water temperature as he found it. All I was asking is to repair (1) leaking faucet. If a repair is not feasible for reasons I don't understand, then a refund should be issued.
