No, this is not going to be "authentic" Thai food, but that's not exactly rare in the States. Amarin is one of the better Thai restaurants in the area, and most of them aren't at all "authentic." They offer the normal curries and noodle dishes along with the basic sushi options, so don't expect anything daring or unusual here. But for a basic Thai-style dinner in a midwestern American city, this place isn't bad. We have had attentive service during 2 visits but the place was completely empty both times. It might be different if it got busy. Overall a decent restaurant, not memorable but not bad either.
  • Alon's 1394 N Highland Ave NE, Atlanta, GA 30306 (404) 872-6000

Alon's bakery offers a variety of breads, cookies, desserts, and other baked goods, along with a well-stocked cheese case and another case full of pre-made lunches and side items. I have never had anything from Alon's that wasn't delicious. They are especially known for their sauces and spreads that come with their sandwiches. Not only are they a reliable lunch and take-out location, but their catering has always been spot-on. It's not cheap, but it's good quality and I have never had any problem with the staff or any "attitude."
  • The Book Nook 3073 N Druid Hills Rd, Decatur, GA 30033 (404) 633-1328

The book nook sells used books, cds, movies, comics, etc. This is one of those bookstores that is packed from floor to ceiling, relatively well-organized. Prices are reasonable. My two complaints are 1) they often mark books with a bright stamp that says "book nook" and makes the book obviously used. This makes it hard to shop for books as gifts, where other used bookstores have books that can pass for new. 2) their policies for selling books and using credit are unclear. Sometimes they let you use credit, other times they don't, other times only up to a certain amount. This needs to be put in writing. But for a part of town that doesn't have a lot of used bookstores, Book nook is pretty great.

I went to Dr. Gupta and Ansley Eye Care because she was nearby and my insurance covered it. She was the funniest and smartest eye doctor I have seen in a long time. The two young men who worked the front were very kind and honest. All fees were explained and made very clear. After my contacts arrived they did a fitting and even let me exchange them for a slightly different pair without any fees. I highly recommend this eye care center.

I've tried over and over to find a good decent priced hair salon in Atlanta that isn't pretentious and doesn't always try to sell product. This was the place for me. Got a good cut and style that was quick and easy and just what I needed. And NO sales pitches! What a relief.

This wanna-be british pub is terrible-- attitude from the waiters, downright offensive. Not worth your time.

This newly opened Trader Joe's store is really great- fresh flowers, bread, produce, an amazing selection of high quality convenience food, organics and free trade options, and need I say more than Cheap Wine? The wine alone is enough to keep you coming back. Bring your canvas bags to save the environment.

This is a great curves location in a small shopping area next to a Kroger store. They have the basic machines that you need to get a good 30-minute workout and they check your progress every month to see how much you have lost in inches and pounds. When you lose they put your name up on the wall! They are really great and supportive.
  • Little Bangkok 2225 Cheshire Bridge Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30324 (404) 315-1530

Little Bangkok is a tiny thai restaurant located off Cheshire Bridge Road in northeast Atlanta where the food is cheap, fiery, and quite tasty. The curries here are layered with multiple flavors and they often have daily specials that outshine anything on the menu. The prices are ridiculously cheap so you can bring a few friends and not worry about the bill. Nicely decorated as well.

While I'm not usually a fan of fast food, a trip to this Wendys recently left me feeling impressed. The workers seemed genuinely friendly, the food was fresh, and the building and facilities were really very clean. While menu items vary widely in price, everything is pretty cheap, so it's a great deal in any case.
