I took my gf here for our 6-month anniversary and was disappointed. I must admit, the food was excellent and very creative, however you did pay for it. The staff was extremely attentive and helpful with wine selection. Still, the decor and atmosphere suffered from a decidedly bridge and tunnel crowd that was very old and, in some cases, embarassingly drunk on very expensive wine. It really ruins the ""romantic"" effect that was it's selling point.
Alan Wong's Restaurant
1857 S King St 3rd Flr, Honolulu, HI 96826
I am New York City-bred foodie of sufficient means to have tried many of the top restaurants and nothing compares to Alan Wong. The pan-asian fusion is like nothing I've ever had before. Korean BBQ ""Tacos"" infused with mexican and SE Asian flavors is simply unbelievable (so is everything else). Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable (waiter recommended a great, moderately price German wine). When I think of Hawaii, I think of Alan Wong before the sun or beach.
