Not bad, not fabulous, decent value

Saturday 10/24/09 for their Julia special. Hadn't been here for five years. \r \r The food gets a solid ""B"". Not bad. My wife particularly enjoyed her fish. My boeuf bourguignon was OK -- the pearl onions had not been caramelized or cooked completely, and tasted sharply onion-y, and the meat had not braised sufficiently to be as tender as this dish should be.\r \r Wine by the glass was acceptable and acceptably priced. \r \r Our waiter resembled Chris Farley pretending to be a fancy French waiter. He did not pull it off. I found him distractingly pretentious. \r \r The crowd .... well, I suppose I can't blame the restaurant for the crowd. Boisterous and well-lubricated. The loudest of them cleared out by 8:30 or so.

    Mediocre.

I had been here a couple of times about a year back, and enjoyed myself, so we came back on 10/10/09 to have dinner with friends. We had four people, and we ordered a lot of dishes. The cooking quality was -- at best -- mediocre. Figs with prosciutto that had been cooked completely into submission -- the figs were oozing out, and the prosciutto was paper-dry. Tasteless, gooey egglant parmegiana. Tough, dry lamb osso buco. Tasteless calamari. All four of us were salting the food, to try to pry some taste out.\r \r It was Saturday night and 2/3 of the tables were empty. We quickly discovered why. By the way -- our bill with tip was $190 for four, so dinner was not only medicore, it was also fairly expensive. There are vastly better alternatives -- Arrivederci comes to mind. You have been warned.

Title sums it up. Beehive hair, tomato sauce from a can, iceberg salad with ""Italian"" dressing. Marginally acceptable if you're in the neighborhood, you're brkoe, and you don't have a car.
