    Terrible manager/owner

I'm giving this place only two stars -not because the food is bad but because the manager/owner is a HORRIBLE person. Every time I go in there, he is so rude. I have done nothing to him except occasionally get take out or dine inside. Almost everyone else who works there is pretty friendly, but he isn't by any stretch of the imagination. One would think that he would appreciate any good paying customer -especially now that we are supposed to officially be in a recession. Last night was the last straw. I ordered a pizza to go over the phone and stopped by on my way home from class to pick it up. HE waited on me (yuck). I so dislike seeing this man. As I was paying with my card, he picked up the large plastic tip ""jar"" and literally shook it in my face -giving me a not so subtle hint. I felt obligated to leave a DOLLAR tip. Who gets the tip, anyway? I almost always tip the standard 15 to 20% tip when dining in at places that have SERVERS who wait on me, but the tip I leave does reflect how I feel about their service. Obviously more if it's good service and less if it's bad service. I don't tip very much (if anything) for take out. The only exception would be if I had a very large order that was handled well by the staff. Doesn't the kitchen and cashier HAVE to make pizzas and wait on the customers? I mean, isn't that in the job description? Would they have a business otherwise? Who says that one has to tip 15 to 20% to the kitchen and cashier? Do I need to also need tip them BESIDES tipping the servers whenever I DINE IN? Hope that dollar made him happy. That really went far. Maybe he should do that with every single customer -he may make more tips that way. IF he's so worried about his KITCHEN staff making tips from customers who order TAKE OUT, then perhaps he should just PAY THEM MORE and that may solve the problem and make it unnecessary to shake a tip jar in someone's face! What a cheap man! He just lost two good customers. How stupid he is -all for a dollar!

    Doesn't deserve even one star

Over the past year or so I have read many reviews about several restaurants. A few that I have come across have dealt with African Americans feeling that they were discriminated against in certain establishments because of their skin color. Now I have a review concerning REVERSE discrimination. A classmate suggested this place to me after we had a discussion about southern food and soul food. She knew that I was adventurous and open-minded. What probably didn't occur to her to tell me was that I should not eat at this place if I am a white person alone or with someone else who is also white. We were not treated very well overall. I can only say that the hostess was fairly nice who sat us, but no one seemed to want to wait on us at all. Several people walked by us without greeting us or asking us for our drink order. A male server that walked by gave us a rather disgusted look, indicating to me that he did not wish to serve us. That did it for me. Even though he spoke to us a moment later when he went to another table to wait on them, I could see that he was not sincere. Clearly this place should post on their website and post signs around as well that they will only wait on certain types of people. Had I been a person that they deemed to be cool such a celebrity with much, much money, perhaps they would have treated me so much better.

Pretty place but food was surprisingly not all that

I have driven by and the seen the bold and beautiful ""Nava"" logo many times on Paces Ferry Road. This restaurant looked so appealing -especially after having seen it on the BHL website and after reading their menu. My husband and I wanted to celebrate my birthday, so we'd thought we try Nava. Their fixed price menu offerings actually sounded quite appealing. When we arrived on a Sunday evening, we were a little surprised to see it so empty. It was pretty near peak evening hours and BHL was having their special $29 three course menu, so we expected more folks to show up. The interior is, in my opinion, quite lovely. We ordered two slightly pricy but tasty cocktails and gave the waiter our order. Some rolls and cornbread sticks that were kind of bluish in color were brought out (from the cornmeal, I guess). They were moist enough but only okay tasting , and I have to admit that I've had better bread and cornbread elsewhere (for starters my mother could make much more delicious cornbread). I ordered a dish consisting of ""organic"" chicken breast and some kind of spicy mac and cheese. It also came with a salad. My husband had the salmon and he opted for the appetizer trio instead of the salad. I must say that I wasn't overly impressed with anything except for the dessert which was a banana enchilada. My husband had the berry tart which he didn't care for at all and we ending up taking that home and not eating any of it. While my chicken breast was juicy and tender, I just did not care for the way it or my mac and cheese were seasoned, and I'm usually a very open-minded individual. I really didn't like the salad at all or my husband's appetizers for that matter. My husband did enjoy his salmon pretty well but he wasn't overly impressed by it. The service that we get at BHL locations is usually pretty snotty at times, but because we were apparently his only table on this night, our server was rather attentive.

not as good as I previously thought

I USED to REALLY like this place; however, the food and service have seriously gone downhill. That's what happens sometimes. A place likes this does well for a time and makes a name for itself and then it gets a little too sure of itself and begins to get more and more slack. I was so pleased to discover this place and my husband even became a ""member."" I have to admit that they do nice things if you are a member -like sending us coupons on his birthday, etc. I contacted the manager, Jason, once about our experience there and he had a multitude of excuses to offer. There is no excuse. Food and service must be consistently good on a daily basis or else customers will stop returning. It's called CONSISTENCY and commitment to EXCELLENCE.

Hip, European-style sophistication comes to Acworth!

Let's see...where should I begin? I just can't believe the good reviews of this place. It must be true that some folks don't care about how the food tastes just so long as there's a lot of it! I guess that either these folks are just plain uniformed, or they must either work for Fusco's Via Roma or they are friends of the owner. The food is only average AT BEST. If I was living in Acworth and had a choice between Krystals or this place, I'd most likely pick this place. I guess it comes down to a lack of choice in this town and a lack of sophisticated taste buds. A fool and his money are soon parted!

    too small

I've eaten here a few times since they opened. Some of the menu items are pretty good and some are quite good. There are some others that I can live without. From our experience so far, the service is pretty good. Overall, the place is very small. I'm not much of a tiramisu fan, but I ordered it to share with my husband and I enjoyed it.

    only idiots work there

Everyone is right about the LOUSY service. The staff are all rude idiots. I've run into some elsewhere over the years at a popular local hangout and they are the biggest losers! They think that they are the so cool 'cause they work at the Vortex (that's their claim to fame). RIGHT! You have to be a complete idiot to work there...obviously they can't work anywhere else. Hope the Vortex offers a pension fund for them. The food? It's okay but I can get food that is comparable elsewhere and not have to deal with those moronic losers! I think that all the positive reviews of this place must have been written by the staff!

This Vortex is better than the one in midtown, but that's not saying much. The food is actually pretty tasty. The wait is too long. It must be their trademark to have rude servers.

    problem may be corporate

The BHL restaurants are not all they are cracked up to be. I agree with some of the negative postings about them. I think that the service is really lacking.

Let's see...the food way, way overrated. If you folks only knew of the amount of butter put in some of their dishes. The service leaves much to be desired. The servers (with the exception of a few) are lazy and pretentious. The runners seem to be doing most of the work, yet the servers get all the credit. There is a definite hierarchy among the staff. Oh wait a minute...in most cases you have to be a complete loser to get a job and keep a job at a BHL restaurant to begin with. You could have a comparable or perhaps better dinner at Olive Garden or Romano's Macaroni Grill and get better service. The waitstaff at those places actually WORK for a living. Sounds like some of the positive reviews that mention the staff (such as MATT) must have been written by someone none other than themselves!!!
