I love trying new places and I usually check reviews for everything. I hope you read mine before going here. On a Saturday girls night out, we decided to grab a very late (about 12am) dinner and drinks at Cafe Circa. We walked in and were impressed by the ambiance, good looking people, and nice set up. It looked like a great place to continue our night. My friends tried to order Grand Mariner martinis, but the bartender did not know how to make them so we got a round of cosmos (viva S*x in the City) and they tasted great. We were starving, so by the time our appetizers came (Chocolate wings, calamari, plantains) I dug right in. To our surprise, the calamari looked great, but tasted like burnt grease. The chocolate wings were decent. I must admit, the plantains were very good. We thought, maybe the calamari was just a fluke. Nope. I ordered the Mango Infused Shrimp. After a lengthy wait, my food came out lukewarm and the rice was hard enough to chip a tooth. I was never asked what side I wanted, so instead of the veggie medley I did want I was automatically given black beans. They were cold, but tasty (I told you I was starving). We relayed our culinary experience (or lack there of) to the waitress who said she told the cook and the manager. She also said they had had several complaints that night on the food (uh, you couldn't have told us this before we ordered???) And You would think they would have done something to change that. No one ever came over to say anything, no apology, and I really don't believe she cared. I really should have sent my food back, and on my way home, my stomach truly regretted by decision to eat the food anyway! I short, the food was way below average, service was kind of lazy, but the vibe and drinks were nice. I would go back, but only as a hang out spot. As a lounge, I'd give Circa 4 stars. As a restaurant, 1.5.
