My first trip to New Orleans was in August 2006. My future husband, who was raised in N.O. wanted to take me to get a real po-boy. Although he hadn't been there in years he thought Mothers would be a good choice. We were both highly diappointed. We didn't arrive all that late at night, a few hours before closing and had ordered 2 poboys. We could only get 1 because they ran out of bread, so we got some etoufet (sorry about the spelling) instead. The shrimp poboy had very little shrimp on it and the etoufet was not very good either. We spent too much money for what we got. The staff was not helpful or courteous and the restaurant on a whole appeared dirty. The only good or interesting part of the visit was the various celeb pictures on the walls. I don't suggest you go there. At one time I understand it was a great place to go, but that time has surely passed.....

Well, if you're the nervous type you're going to want to get over it once you walk in the door then sit down and order some food! The service can be a little slow, but this is an excellent place to have good food with friends and have a few while you're waiting for your food to arrive. My husband and I tried it on the suggestion of a bartender at the hotel we were staying in and I think we went back every day of our trip (and the next one) except for 1. The breakfasts are awesome, as are the lunches and dinners. You get a lot of food for the price of the meal. It's so good you'll want to clean your plate, although I doubt you can.

This is a great place to stop by anytime it's open - early, late or late late (when you've already forgotten your name). Friendly bar staff, decent atmosphere and good food. If you want to have something to eat, I suggest the BBQ Shrimp Poboy - but not it you've already had a few too many. :-)
