Overall

I went in to Smoggy's and yes the inside office is really clean and comfortable, but that is the only thing that is okay about the place. The older guy that was working there was pretty annoying, he talked about Jesus, God and life choices over and over. He just wouldn't shut up. The younger guy just has a bitter attitude to me. So I had my 1991 Chevy S10 smogged. When the younger guy finished smogging it he told me that it is producing to much hydrocarbons and failed the test. He said that I might need a new catalytic converter and that's it. I went out to my truck, started it and left. When I was leaving the place and starting to drive down the highway I noticed my engine light was on, I though that was pretty strange. When I got home my brother plugged his computer in to my truck. My brother having nearly twenty plus years of automotive experience, I assumed he would know what to do. My brother then told me that it was a ignition timing error and he couldn't find the problem after searching all the wires. I was filling up at a gas station so I could run this stuff called mystery oil through my truck. When I was reaching for the bottle of mystery oil on the passenger side floor of my truck, I noticed there were two wires disconnected under the dash. I plugged the reconnected the wire and wahlah. The engine light turned off. I assumed that was the problem and I was wondering how the wires would become unplugged since it would take some force to do so. After finding this problem and fixing it, I went back to the smog shop to do my free smog test like it states in there policy. So I walked into the smog shop and talked to the younger guy, who in my opinion is a real a hole. He asked me if I fixed the problem. I told him that I found some wires disconnected. He then said," that wouldn't cause it to fail the test." So I said, "that's not what my brother said" and told him that the ignition timing wires were unplugged. He just said "what?" So I then said,"did you unplug the wires then?" He said, "no", obviously lying. I mean the wires didn't unplug by themselves and that's exactly what I told him. He then said,"If you think I'm a fraud you can leave." I asked him one last time. Did you unplug any wires in my truck. He said,"no, I didn't unplug the stupid idle motor control wires." I told him that that was not what I said. I said ignition timing wires. He then said," oh. Yeah they have to be unplugged to complete the test" while yelling. I then said," so you lied to me?" He then got pissed off and told me to leave. So before all of that, I drove all the way back to my house not knowing what the problem was. If I didn't notice the two wires unplugged and my brother wasn't a mechanic. I most likely would have taken it to a shop to try to get it fixed. Or I would have taken it back to the smog shop and told the guy that my engine light was on. He then probably would have charged me 50 bucks just to tell me that the timing control wires were unplugged. So if you're okay with fraud, this is the place for you. If not I suggest you go somewhere where they actually know how to do their job and don't preach to to you about Jesus, God and life choices. But that's your decision.
