The CDC has determined that concussion is a high priority public health initiative, due to high prevalence and potentially serious long-term consequences that may arise from incomplete recovery and improper management. Physical therapists, regardless of specialty (sports, orthopedics, neurology, geriatrics, pediatrics, federal, acute care, etc.) are likely to be consulted in the evaluation and treatment of individuals with cervical, vestibular, oculomotor and return to activity needs following a concussion.
