I felt horribly scammed by the service we had done. My son's Camry broke down on the side of the highway and we had it towed to the Toy Dr. as they were the closes Toyota repair facility. Initially they told me the engine had to be replaced. Options were used or reconditioned. I paid fully list price for a used engine, then they said the motor for the A/C was out and it would be another $600 (it worked when we brought it in, but saw how it could have been related). Then when the car was finally ready my son drove it off and day #1 the radiator over heated. He called Toy Dr. immediately who checked it and said it would be ok. Then every day it would overheat and he'd call the Toy Dr. who said to fill the antifreeze which he did. Bottom line he brought it back in and they said the radiator needs to be replaced for $400. They know exactly what they're doing to make more money off of unsuspecting clients. STAY AWAY or you'll be in the same scenario.

BEWARE!!!



This is EXACTLY what gives professional mechanic shops a horrible reputation and SCARES the heck out of the general public, making them afraid to get their cars fixed.



The Toy Doctor in Tualatin Oregon Charged me for a service I never requested, Charged me for an estimate without telling me previously and purposely told me there were things wrong that they KNEW werent true!



Then, when I caught them at all this they just treated me badly and refused to refund me my estimate fee!



I took my 1990 4 Runner in and asked for a general inspection and a repair estimate.

Told them there was some oil leaking and the back window switch needed to be checked because the window would only function sporadically when I jiggled the switch.

I came back to find a $112.00 bill $75.00 of which was for an hour spent on taking apart the whole rear section to tell me it was a computer relay that would cost over $600 just to make the window work.

Well....this was fixed with a simple switch I obtained for free from a person parting out their Toyota. Which remember is what I had thought it was and the only thing I had asked them to check in the first place.

Now this was just the beginning. I also received an estimate for over $5000 of other "needed & necessary" repairs including several oil leaks. I knew it couldnt be leaking form those places because it had been stored and JUST started leaking oil and NEVER leaked at ALL before that sooooo.... I decided to get another opinion and had it all checked out from another QUALITY PROFESSIONAL mechanic that told me it was only leaking from one, possibly two specific areas, which ended up being the power steering pump (around $150 TOTAL including parts to fix it from the new guy, and it was $270 from Toy Doctor) So we fixed that and the Oil Cooler O Ring total $65.00 and WOW a miracle NO MORE OIL LEAKS. It was not the main seals or the valve covers like the TOY DOCTOR had said it was. They had also said all the ball joints needed to be replaced and that wasnt true. Only the lowers did because the uppers had just been replaced recently. And SEVERAL OTHER things just like this amounting to over $5000 WOW... crazy huh??



Sooo...I went in to talk to them about all this. I asked to speak directly to the tech who worked on the truck to explain all this. I found out that the tech had told the guy whos responsible for writing up the estimate that "there was oil on several parts of the engine" and the estimate writer just made the rest up.....again WOW!!!



All I asked was for them to please refund me my estimate which was not fair because 1) they performed services I did not ask for 2) it was so wrong and 3) they never even told me there would be a fee for the estimate in the first place. I also asked they seriously consider changing their estimate protocol so it was fair and just!! But instead they just treated me badly and refused to refund me!...again WOW



I am writing this Just for the principal because I believe its my duty..... I am also taking them to court. Please all of you others do the same!

My new auto shop

Took my Camry in for a timing belt and transmission service, based on friend's recommendation. I've found my new auto shop for sure.

Was quoted the price upfront, work was done on time, cost was right on with what was quoted, and they didn't try to get me to buy wipers, or any other unnecessary items.

I'm going back soon for a radiator flush. Work is guaranteed for 12 months or 12k miles. What a relief to find such a place.
