Great food, but the dirty dishes cart is right there, so it's a little noisy.

I live in the area and have gone to this resturant many times, but now refuse to get anything but take out. I agree with a lot of the posts here, it is among the best chinese you can find in Portland. However, the service definetely turns people away. The location is a little dingy and dirty, though not too bad, but the servers are unwelcoming, rude and combative. \r \r We once asked to subsitute the fried rice that came with a family meal for white steamed rice, completely willing to pay extra if needed, but the waitress merely sneered and shouted ""we no subsitiutions"". It's just a rude place, do not go there if your looking for good customer service. My adive it to get it for take out, beacuse it is good food, just horrible service.

\r We walked from the RV park down the road based on the park's employee recomendation. The park employee told me if MSG was an issue with us just say so when ordering to avoid having it in our dinner. Having high blood pressure we ordered and asked for "" no MSG or salt where possible"".\r \r We are from out of state and found both the quality and quanity of our dinner far better than any Chinese feed we have ever had. The server possibly the owner was rude, abrubt and displayed a control nastyness when she threw our leftovers in the take out containers. She ruined our dining experience. We will not visit on our return trip.\r \r \r

This is a small family type Chinese restaurant. We had a party of nine on a Tuesday evening. Thank goodness we had reservations, because the place was full at 6:00 p.m. At first we were disappointed with the decor and furnishings, but when we tasted the food we were jubilant. It was well worth the drive from Tualatin. There was only one waitperson but she was friendly and efficient. None of the guests complained because the food was so good, hot and fresh. You must try the ""Salt and Pepper Shrimp""!
Stuff is very rude and not worth the visit.

We've been going to this place for the past 12 months. There is one person there (not sure what her name is) that seems to be angry at the world. =) She doesn't treat paying customers very well. She should look for another job, or possibly just work in the kitchen? She's definitely not a people person. The rest of the staff has always been nice to us. We've eaten at many of the Chinese places on the east side of Portland, and this is one of our favorites. We always get the food to go though. We enjoy eating while watching a movie in our own living room anyway.

We have lived in East county for 7 years, and never tried Taste of Village. We decided to give it a try (instead of driving to Milwaukie to our favorite place), and what a disappointment it was! Similar to other reviewers, the server was rude, the food was garbage and the restaurant was worn & dingey. What I found most disgusting? My hot & sour soup had a black hair in it (I'm a redhead)! You'll get better food & service at the food court at the mall... don't bother going here.

We love the food and the portions...but the decore is far from fresh or clean. The fish tank is nasty. I've seen the same clump of congealed food on the window sill for the past 6 months. They always seem to be busy.....maybe it's time to put some money, back INTO it? The staff doesn't seem to smile much, and they're a bit snippy. Again....the food is good (best in the area)....but I'd hate to see the kitchen.

This is the best chinese food I have ever had, not expensive at all and lots of food. Service is wonderful. I think it is better than any in San Francisco, CA.

I eat their food all the time and I couldnt disagree more with most of these reviews, especially the first one. (That sounds more like a result of your bad attitude) Any time I have eaten there they havent neccisarily been the friendliest, but they have never been rude either. And I completely dissagree with the comment about their food being equivelent to safeway chinese. I just feel like it is my responsibility as a repeat customer of this location to let people know what it is REALLY like.\r \r Basically what I said before- They are the best chinese Ive had, and the service isnt the BEST, but its good enough, and worth getting past just for the food.\r \r I hope my HONEST review is helpful.

Went to take my BF to a nice lunch. HA HA HA.....The waitress was rude threw our 2 menus @ a table. We sat down. Brought our water with her fingers around the rim. (where I would drink) Then she went and bussed some tables with a dirty towel. Put garbage away. Came back took our order. Watched her take peoples money buss more tables. Pick up SILVERWARE (CLEAN) and never ONCE washed her hands. Brought us our food. So discusted we tried to eat cause food is good. Couldn't do it. Friend talked to bartender told her we weren't paying. We left., walking to car a customer (who has eaten there for years, god bless his soul he hasn't gotten sick) and the waitress yelling at us to come pay. We tell her how nasty she was. She sticks her NASTY hands in our face telling us to smell them and that she is the cleanest. We ask why she hasn't washed her hands the whole time we were there (hand washing station in our view of our table) She laughed and told us we are crazy and that we just want our meal for free. We are writing this to let people know how DIRTY and CONTAMINATED this place is. NOT TO MENTION RUDE......\r p.s. My husband looked up review for dirty dining. They got a 77.....yeah cleanest place my a$$

Really mediocre food. My mongolian beef was basically a bunch of white onions and a tiny bit of beef.\r The hot and sour soup tastes somehow 'Hawaiian', very unusual. Seems clean though.

My Wife and I found this place by chance on our way to the river, went back twice that day, A great old school lounge, friendly service, and the best fried shrimp we have ever had.

Ok, so the wife and went to to eat just a couple of minutes ago, boy do we regret it! The food is expensive, and sadly not as good as say...Panda Express. The rice is some kind of Brown rice, not very good, the lady at the counter wasn't very nice, since this was takeout, they forgot our chow mein and I while I was waiting, I saw one of the cooks enter the bathroom and didn't seem to have washed his hands! Go to panda express, it's much better!

I first tried Taste of Village shortly after moving to Troutdale in 2003, and now I rarely go anywhere else for Chinese food! Great menu and good-sized portions. The flavors are superb. Unlike many Chinese restaurants, the fried shrimp at Taste of Village are large and coated in a delicious batter that doesn't overpower the shrimp. If you're in the area, it's worth the detour!
