Since 1935, The Colonnade has been one of Florida's finest seafood restaurants. With fresh fish delivered daily, the family-owned and operated restaurant in Tampa, Fla., is a bay area favorite. Lois (Mamie) Whiteside and her sons, Richard Jr. and Jack, opened The Colonnade on Bayshore Boulevard. Then, the restaurant was a favorite local hangout for Tampa's teenagers, serving hamburgers, fried chicken and a Colonnade original - an olive in a Coca-Cola. After World War II, it began serving what it is now famous for - fresh seafood. While stationed in San Francisco during the war, Jack Whiteside became inspired by the West Coast Bay Area's many seafood restaurants, and the boys, avid fisherman, were happy to add fresh fish and shellfish entrees to the menu. The Colonnade has remained in the Whiteside family for five generations.
Special fish on the menu was good. Everything else was bad. Cooked my steak wrong twice and gave me my glass of wine for free. I am not really picky about my steak but I can not eat it medium well or rare and that is what i got. My shrimp I ate, but they were overcooked and dry. The shrimp was supposed to be marinated, but they simply had a sauce poured over part of them after they were over grilled!
