Far from home, but worth the trip!
This is not a gratuitous rating - but I have been going to Bangz Salon for a year now, and absolutely love it. Moreover, I have been a client of Maria Fodero for two years, and cannot express how wonderful she is; as a person, and as a stylist. While stylists I've had before her had told me that I couldn't have a certain style, cut, or color (or misinterpreted what I had hoped for), she *always* made it happen, and made it look good!
When I first became her client, my hair was very damaged, seemingly beyond repair, and I refused to cut it short (at the time). However, Maria managed to take charge of it, restore its health/condition, while still coloring, highlighting, and cutting it so it doesn't just look good - it *feels* good, too. The colors she blends are so natural-looking; she really has an eye for colors, to a degree that I find amazing. She doesn't push products, or make me feel silly for wanting to keep it the same style, or (as has happened recently) try something far out... well, relatively-speaking. She will recommend products, if you ask her, that would benefit *you* individually, and she'll explain why. None of the fast-sales-pitch talk. Above all else, Maria has a great sense of humor, and is an interesting person to get to know. I'm lucky to have found her.
Gina, the owner/receptionist/etc., is fantastic, as well. Though she's not a stylist, she always does more than expected; gets appointments when you need them, and gets you anything you need (love the Awapuhi products that I order through her). She's a trip, very funny! They're all very professional, but not at all stuck-up, and as simple as that may sound, it's very important to me.
I drive 45 minutes from my home (or sometimes longer, I live in FishHawk) to have Maria style my hair - and there are many, many stylists within a much shorter distance, but she's that good.
