Oh my gosh!! Are we talking about same place I go to? The people and "staff" who left these terrible reviews obviously dont know Dr. Jims heart. Sure the buildings old but its only a building..... Whats important is WHO is caring for your pet. BTW.... They have done lots of improvements to inside of building. Sure he went thru terrble divorce. But most of us have been through that ourselves. Exes dont play fair and leave many BROKE and starting over from nothing. I can tell you that Dr. Jim is NOT all about money because I do cat rescue and he is very generous with his time and makes things affordable out of the goodness of his heart. Staff has told me he is incredibly caring and comes in each day greeting, comforting and talking to all the animals. Not to mention HE saved one of my rescue kittens from a leg amputation by doing STEM CELL THERAPY. There are no other vets in the area that do this and any other vet would have amputated. This cat is now an adult and has his leg thanks to Dr. Jim. He also trests cats with Leukemia!! Other vets euthanize. Treatment works on about 80% of cats. He does lots of this for low cost for rescues. We are all human. Give Dr. Jim a break. I am a legit rescue.....Not a family member or friend. My name is Meg Wilcox ...... Cat Rescue:)

As a former employee I laughed when I read these.
to be honest, the place is run down and that is putting it mild.
The doctor is verbally abusive to his staff. I left to pursue my PhD and here is what I learned while working there:

each fecal sample wand is not disinfected! a solution of blue Dawn dish soap is used instead since it resembles chlorhexadene. so worms, fleas, parvo, warts, its all spread.

use of expired drugs yes injectables from 2004 are still in use inside this clinic!

and there is much more but for sanitary reasons alone after I could not get Doctor compliance I walked out.
saving a buck matters more than standards here!
if you seriously let yourself be sweet talked by staff and dont see the signs I feel I havefailed you.
I left theclinic in July 2012 and it still haunts me. I couldnt make the changes needed and feared for every pets wellbeing to the point I would go check on critical pets off the clock for free since no one else would. still pets were accepted in a halfway functioning clinic.
dont even ask about dentals and bathing or boarding. those poor pets.

The worst animal hospital I've ever gone to. They seem to care more about making $ than your pets well being. Be very cautious of this place.

I love Dr Hughes theres no one else that I would use for my pets. He took such excellent care of our tea cup yorkie Sophie. Tina is amazing and full of awesome advice. The office is lloking beautiful and there prices are very fair. Thanks for so many years of great care for all of our babies!!!! terrie olivera

I come out of my way with my pet for the Dr. but, his staff needs a update on people skills. Never before have I felt attacked to the point I felt I had to defend myself and it was done in front of other clients..



I was even told that front desk staff had told me in the past about a test that needed updating which was totally false.



In the past front desk has taken wrong information on meds I needed . I had to return and get the correct meds. and I kept my cool. They have also waited to call me until right when I was home already to let me know my credit card was still in their possession. I kept my cool again.



When I first started coming to see Dr. I was so happy I had found a place that really cared for my little dog. Now I hope this bitter taste

goes away because I still do not doubt the Dr"s skills.



I have recommended my friends to the Dr in the past so I hope they are treated with more compassion and thought because 1st impressions are not retrievable and this is how a business can be ruined.

The office is great since it is under new managment and ownership. Nothing has been put in the building for so long, but they are starting to make improvments to the clinic. The staff is very helpful and considerate. I know some of the employees there and the treatment of the animals always come first. They stayed for my cat that was attacked by a dog till after 9pm to make sure she was ok. I'm sure if you are a previous employee you must be a disgruntled employee, because they have really improved the facility and are making improvements each time I go in there with my cats. Dr. Jim is just the best and has changed so much he is really a caring person. I would recomment this clinic to anyone. And they are much better with their prices than anyone around.

We agree with the great job Dr.Hughs is doing. We brought our Rottie to Dr.Hughs for a bump on her nose and found out that it was nacardia. Dr.Hughs gave us plenty of info. about it and gave her the meds. she needed to cure this without having to go through tests that wernt nessessary. When we brought her back for the re check it was completely cleared up! While I was there I mentioned that she had thrown up earlier that morning and after doing the exam he realized that her stomach was very tender and explained to us what types of bones to give her at length! He prescribed meds. and we thank him for this because sometimes you think your doing a good thing and your not! He is always very patient and never rushes with the animals.My parents go there also and they have done a great job for them also. Tiffany

Loving and caring people, the building needs some cosmetics, but Dr, HUghes takes great care of my corgies and each litter of pups I have receives great care and love from the staff and the Dr, I have nothing but praise, I love this place, and I am real person and a real dog breeder not an employee like most of you will probably think, Sorry about all of your bad exoperiences, but mine have always been good, and it sure beats drive all the way to south tampa to Bayshore Clinic, nothing bad to say about them either, but they charge too much and I have to drive to far,

Its a great place to bring your pet. I took my Lab/boxer/pit mix to Dr. Hughes when she was 8 months old(she's now 11 months). She was abused and used as a "bait dog' from her last home. She suffers of EXTREME Anxiety, got a lot of bone deformities from being abused, Severe separation anxiety. We took her in to Dr. Hughes to get her Puppy vaccines, since She was almost "adult" stage, He gave her the adult shot package(valued $68) for the price of Puppy shot package coupon that was $48. That was very nice of him. HE also recommended me to get the COMFORTIS flea pill because My Little Bianca is all white and suffers dry skin. Since i couldn't afford the pill at the time, he gave me it to sample. He also put her on Joint meds and took the time to look up all stores that sell OTC cheap, Told me to go to walgreens because they had it buy one get one free for 16.99 which was a great DEAL for 240 pills total! Dr. hughes has a big heart for animals, he stayed in our exam room for about 1hr 30mins to give her the exam, shots, talk to us about her emotional issues. He even took the time to show us ways we can massage Bianca and train her with only using our voice and "mothers Grip" technique. It was wonderful. Ive never left a vets office being so realived and He took a total of $85.00 off our bill plus another $20. from letting us use the puppy coupon for the adult puppy package shots. Im glad he gave the adult shots, because she would be going back for them again now since she's almost a year. The only downfall, is the place is a little run down...but good thing is they're starting to remodel and it DOES NOT smell like an animal place. I have such bad allergies to animals and this place DID not bother me....DONT JUDGE THE VET BY HIS OFFICE!

Dr. Jim is the best vet and he doesn't charge outrageous prices to care for your animal. Yes, his office is not as fancy as some, but that is probably how he keeps prices down. My friend recommended him to me and I would recommend him to anyone!
