I like Dr. Evans. While my relationship failed, does not always mean Dr. Evans failed. Dr. Evans is there to only provide guidance but if one out of the two party is not willing to participate for the win of the relationship, it's on us. Don't blame the counselor because you want him to say what you want to hear. No relationship gets better through the counselor alone. Dr. Evans is definitely blunt, he doesn't sugar coat, he is honest. We're not there to hear nice things, we're there to hear the truth. It can be brutal at first with Dr. Evans but it gets better only if you apply his guidance. Eventhough my relationship ended, Dr. Evans continued to show me there is still a bright future out there. He particularly showed that he cared about my well being after my ex called the whole thing off. Dr. Evans counseled me and making sure my mental state was sound. I was no doubt devastated after the break up but Dr. Evans was there to build me back up. He did not hold my hands. It's not his way, it's not a bad way either. Through that I learned to deal with tougher times ahead, live in the present and look for positive side of things always. Everything can be taken from us except our choice to want to feel positive. Another thing, this counselor thinks about his patients even in his off hours. How he had handled them. He had came back to me on one session, told me while he was mowing the lawn, thought about my circumstances/family history and identified why I feel the way I feel which he couldn't see in the previous session. That says a lot about a counselor. He is dedicated, not afraid to admit fault. Even though my relationship didn't succeed, I learned to be a happier person through Dr. Evans. Like other folks mention, his method is not typical. But you have to have an open mind, open to changes, not afraid to ask him how and what he means...then he's the right guy for you. I think he is the best counselor I have seen. I have moved to another state and just couldn't find anyone as effective as him.

Dr. Miller literally saved my life five years ago. I was in a horrible marriage and felt like I had no way to get out of it and that I had no value. She is an amazing therapist and gave me the TOOLS to see reality and to see that I needed to take care of myself and live a balanced life, and I could do that on my own no matter what my husband told me (emotional abuser that eventually got physical at the end). Her therapy is NOT like the useless therapy I had experienced in the past, e.g.: "And how does that make you feel?" As an attorney who deals with family law issues, I have recommended Dr. Miller to many of my clients. I just googled to find her phone number and ended up at this site and decided anyone who is looking for a therapist may benefit from going to Dr. Miller. She is truly a gift.
From the owners in response to Anonymous, I am very sorry Lael decided she wanted to work in the Brandon office after you saw her due to health reasons. Most of our therapists work out of both offices. The first session is more of an intake and information gathering session so the therapist can do a treatment plan. I do have compassion for all of our clients and what they are going through, severe depression and anxiety is not easy to deal with. I understand you did not want to drive 20 minutes to continue to see Lael and you did not want to see another therapist in our Hyde Park office. I am also sorry to say Lael has since retired due to a stroke. I would like to make this up to you with free counseling with my business partner and Clinical Director. Thank you Sam
