Overall
I would highly Not recomend go...

I would highly Not recomend going to this gas station for any car repairs.

My son brought his car to Don Landis Shell after making an appointment to get a leaking water pump replaced. After one week he was told the car was repaired and ready to pick up. This was supposed to be a 5.5-hour job.

After I paid the bill, $677 + change my son started the car and it didn't sound right. We were told the mechanic was already gone for the day and that we could take the car and return the next day. My ex-husband met my son the next day at the station where he listened to it and couldn't believe the car was released to us. The timing chain was slapping the timing cover.

My ex talked with the mechanic who said he thought it was the hydraulic tensioner. He said he had a similar issue when he first started the vehicle but after a few minutes it went away. He said the tensioner had probably ruptured a seal and he already had one on order. After asking if the mechanic was qualified to do the repair, and was assured by the mechanic that he was qualified, my ex agreed to pay for the part and the mechanic would pay for the labor. We were told the car would be ready the next day.

When no one from the garage called to say the car was ready to pick up my ex went to the garage when he got off work. The car was still on the car lift. The mechanic had said he had problems and had bent a valve. I told him I was not going to pay for additional repairs that were caused by the mechanic. He said he would pay for the additional repairs himself. When I went back after the weekend, when the car was supposed to be ready again, the car was on the hoist again. When I asked what was going on the mechanic said when he pulled the head off to do the repair there was additional damage. There were two cracked pistons. At this point the engine was going to need extensive repairs and he said he couldn't pay for that himself and needed to contact his insurance company.

After another week the adjuster called and said the car was totaled. The insurance company has agreed to settle for the loss of the vehicle. I then contacted the owner, Gertrud Landis and asked for a refund for the repair that never was successfully completed and caused the vehicle to be totaled. She said she needed to contact her insurance company before she would do anything. I talked with the insurance company and they informed me that their liability was for the vehicle and not the cost of the repair or the refund. That would be the station's responsibility. When I contacted the owner again she still said she needed to talk with her insurance. I gave her the name and number of the claims manager I had been dealing with. After not hearing from her for another two days I contacted the owner again. This time she referred me to her insurance agent. This person said there was no way that the owner was going to refund the cost of the negligent repair and we should be happy with the insurance settlement. We were told by the insurance company specifically that the insurance claim was only for the loss of the vehicle. At this point there is no reconciliation with the station owner. I have filed a complaint with the BBB.
