Carnahan Animal Hospital

He has spayed or neutered all our pets!! We love him. We drive approximately 150 miles round trip, to use him. He cares and loves animals more than any vet we have ever been too!! I have read reviews saying he is expensive, but in our area just to get a cat spayed is over $160!

Carnahan has been around for a long time, and he knows his stuff from experience, but he's expensive and I wouldn't be surprised if that was because Dr. Henkel is SO much cheaper. That being said, Carnahan's facility is more professional and seemed to be kept the cleanest (though the Henkel's always disinfect). It's also easier to make a spay/neuter appointment with him because Henkel's schedule is usually already full.

That being said, Carnahan is also very liberal with anesthetic. I had two cats spayed at the same time. I took one to Henkel and one to Carnahan. The one I got back from Henkel was wide awake and active, while the other was groggy for nearly 4-5 hours after pick up. The same for a friends dog who was spayed. It's probably just hearsay, but I'm told it's because Carnahan spay/neuter price is based on the anesthetic he uses. Neither vet tests for heart worms or kidney health before prescribing medications or performing surgeries. These have to be asked for and most of the time they'll try to talk you out of it.

I called Dr. Carnahan to speak about his practice, prices, and get a general feel of what kind of person he was. I didn't want to take my 2 dogs that I adore to just anyone! With in 3 secs of being on the phone with Dr. Carnahan he had already been so rude to me there was NO WAY I was taking my dogs to him. I explained I was looking for a new vet and I was calling to get an idea of whom I'd like. He says, "if your basing on just prices then you should probably go with Dr. Henkel." He said this BEFORE I could finish my sentence to say I wanted to speak with him about his practice and how he handles his clients! Apparently he's not only too expensive but rude! So if you want the rudest small town man, he's the guy, but be prepared to pay for it according to him!
