No matter how crowded the parking lot is, there always seems to be one or two tables left for my family to visit, even on Friday nights -- yet I've never seen it anywhere close to empty. It's like a magic trick. The food is equally magical, with a huge selection of rolls and a charmingly apologetic note on the menu about pictures showing two "skewers" of each type even though each order is only one "skewer". This is my go-to sushi place, just noisy enough to be fun without being annoying, and with consistently good service and food. And for some reason, the miso soup always tastes better here than anywhere else...

2nd time here, one for regular dinner and one for my birthday.
We sat 10 at our table and it was crowded. Our cook was young and very athletic. He was great with names and the kids.
Fried Rice- B. It was better at Benihana's.
Filet Mignon- A+. Tender, tender tender.
Chicken- C- very dry.
Shrimp- C- small, stringy.
Veggies- B. they mash them all together unlike Benihana's. We like them separated.
Service- A- It was very good and the waiters were very courteous and on top of things.
Owner- He was great with the kids and gave the kids each a toy.
I have visited this place on different occasions and have been impressed every single time. From atmosphere to service to dish presentation that looks like it's straight out of a food magazine, this sushi spot is five-stars, start to finish. Not only are the portions huge, they are reasonably priced and the quality is simply the best, the freshest. Service is always top-notch, very prompt, friendly and accommodating which is one of the main reasons we keep going back. This place can get very busy Fri/Sat nights but well worth it. Make sure you try the Volcano roll and Rolls Royce rolls, these are way too delicious. Two thumbs up!!

I would have given 5 star few years ago, but quality of the food has changed but not sure why and how... sushi has become mediocre and the chicken teriyaki uneatable.
So sad, i use to eat hear 2 times a week but now, maybe once a month.

I've been going to Shiki Sushi for well over a year and I thought I'd found the perfect Sushi place. There's rarely a wait for a table, no reservation necessary, and the sushi tastes good.
I didn't like the experience I had on my Birthday. They tacked a ""complimentary desert"" to the bill without mentioning it to my friends. The service had also taken a turn for the worse, and I couldn't tell why. With that said...I decided to give them another chance.
Last week I waited for my meal while my friend practically finished hers without the waitress even checking once to make sure I was ok. I asked for my food. I also replaced the toilet paper roll in the bathroom and bussed my own table after asking someone to clear my plates...and waiting for 20 minutes for anyone to look at my table.
I WAS BEYOND INSULTED WHEN nothing was taken off the bill. We'd had at least 3 waiters during the night so I complained and asked for a Manager.
The Manager came over with an attitude, took an aggressive stance, got loud, interrupted me, and then said ""I'M NOT GOING TO ARGUE WITH YOU, WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO?!?!""
I paid the full bill and left no tip with a note saying I'd never been treated so poorly in a restaurant.
SHAME ON SHIKI SUSHI!!!!!

WE'VE BEEN TO SHIKI MANY TIMES OVER THE YEARS, ALTHOUGH IT REALLY ISN'T AS TASTY AS IT USED TO BE, PROBABLY A RESULT OF NEW OWNERS. MY GRIPE IS THAT THEY ADDED AN 18% GRATUITY TIP TO MY BILL DURING LUNCH. THERE WAS NO WARNING OF THIS BEING A POSSIBLITY ON THE MENU THEY GAVE US NOR WAS A SIGN POSTED. THEY ALSO TAXED THE TIP MONEY AS PART OF THE GRATUITY. I SHOULD HAVE SAID SOMETHING BUT WE WERE CELEBRATING AND I WOULD HAVE TIPPED ANYWAY, BUT ABOUT FOUR DOLLARS LESS. I WAS WITH MY FAMILY AND A GUEST, SO WE HAD A TOTAL OF 5 ADULTS AND 1 YOUNG CHILD. I RESENTED WHAT THEY DID AND WILL BE RELUCTANT TO GO BACK.

I walked into Shiki a year ago and was greeted like I was family. The sushi chefs are so friendly and genuine. Since that day, I eat at Shiki 3-4 times per week..sometimes twice a day! The fish is so fresh and surprisingly affordable! The portions are generous, so you don't spend a fortune. I've gotten all my friends addicted to this place. Some of them even come out from Santa Monica to eat at Shiki! Johnny, Eric, and Jay are the best sushi chefs ever! This place is my favorite restaurant hands down! I have a difficult time eating at other sushi spots...nothing can compare to Shiki!

I started going to Shiki about 5 years ago and it was great. The service was great, the sushi was great and I believe the two of the sushi chefs were co-owners. At least they acted like it. I use to go a couple times a week and when friends and family from back east would visit I would brag about Shiki and take them there. Then I noticed the sushi staff was changing often and then the two chefs that I thought were co-owners where not there anymore along with the helpful and fast service waitstaff. About a year or so ago I went and there were all new people working and the sushi which I found to be very fishy left a bad taste in my mouth along with the service. Because another place on the corner of Laurel Canyon and Magnolia called, Miya Sushi that has great sushi, was closed I decided to give Shiki another try. I always get a rainbow roll and it was much better, not as good as it used to be but much better than the last few times I went. The fish wasn't as fishy and had a nice flavor. It was take-out so I can't rate the service. Hopefully they are on track to being great again.

I absolutely love this restaurant. I come here 1-4 times a week and I can't get enough of it. To begin with, everyone gets a steaming bowl of hot miso soup and a lovely small beansprout salad to start. Then the orders. There are so many choices here but my particular favorites are the Salmon Chunk - fresh chunks of salmon lightly mixed in a wonderful sesame flavored sauce, ladled over a large cut salmon roll topped with chopped green onions, the Yellowtail Sashimi - several generous slices of fresh yellowtail - really like two orders of sashimi, and any of the Dinner Specials, especially the Chicken Teriyaki or Black Cod (You probably will have to take some home as it comes with salad, tempura veggies/shrimp, rice and your choice of spicy tuna roll, california roll or 3 pieces of sushi). All portions are HUGE (Trust me, you will not see the rice under the sushi), fresh, delicious AND reasonably priced. You won't go away hungry. Best place for service is definitely the bar. I usually go later in the evening when it slows down a bit and can always get a seat. I know all the Sushi Chefs by name (because they have name tags!), they always have a great sense of humor and they treat you like family.
