Great romantic boutique hotel for a weekend

I normally do not write reviews, but I really wanted to take the opportunity to rave about this quaint little boutique hotel in santa clara. I picked this place to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday and wanted to get away from the typical dorm room scene. Being a graduate student on financial aid, paying $300 a night at some other upscale places, like in SF or monterey, was out of the question. Then I came across this place. For around $100 a night, we got an amazing, very well appointed room. I have stayed at resorts and hotels all over the world, and the room would go toe-to-toe with any of the other guest rooms (obviously excluding suites). The place has a pool and hot tub, and some other amenities we didn't take advantage of. The best part was we truly received 4-star service. I made reservations online stating that it was my girlfriend's birthday, and the staff went above and beyond what was required, and totally exceeded my expectations. When we came to our room, there was a chilled bottle of champagne waiting for us, and the staff had purchased a cake and candles and left it in the mini fridge. It really made the evening. Being locals we did a night on the town in san jose and the surrounding area and retired back to our room in the evening after using the hotel's pool and hot tub. I can't overemphasize what a great value this stay was, and the staff showed a level of service of a 4-star hotel.\r Cons: Not a lot to do in the immediate area, but if you have a car who cares? You can get on 280 and get access to all silicon valley has to offer.
